Servicing

Post by willberry70 »

Hi Guys,
So in the absence of my favourite mobile RX8 mechanic I best have my local garage service it.

Is there anything special about a standard service?
I know you have to change the oil twice but I don't know exactly how that works.

All help appreciated 👍

Will

I double oil change is really recommended when you first buy a car with unknown history, or you know it well overdue, or you looking to switch from 5w30 to 10w40 oils.

In all these cases it's about replacing as much of the old oil as possible, as soon as possible.

As an ongoing servicing routine, it's better to just do oil changes at more frequent intervals.

Tell them the leading and trailing spark plugs are different t and mixing them up will crack the housing. Other than that it's a simple engine to service.

Yup, I know about that one :thumright:

Was really wondering how you did the double oil change? Just poor in twice as much as it needs??

Nope don’t do that.

Change the oil (don’t bother with the filter), run it for 20-50 miles then change the oil and filter.

Do I need to be fussy regarding the oil filter?

"Fussy" as in fitting the right specification and not some dodgy fake that will collapse internally and block the flow, or fail to filter anything?

I would say so, yes.

As far as engine oil is concerned for a double swap you need 8 litres, I tend to get mine from tescos or Halfrauds when on offer. But opie oils could supply all required oils and filters and I think you can get 10% off on your first order. Supplier is upto you at the end of the day though.
I can do gearbox and diff as well if you like(there is a fluid level guide on the forum for actual quantities required) and I don't mind driving to yours if food and fuel is included

If euroCarParts know my car type does it filter successfully to only show parts that fit? There's an EBC Yellow stuff rear pad that looks right if so.

If you're buying EBC pads buy them from https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/ using one of our discount codes. Will cost less than ECP.

EBC Red Stuff all over. They have Green Stuff for rear pads on euroCarParts. Do you reckon they should all be the same and be replaced at the same time? It's just one rear that worn at the mo.
