Specialist in Bucks

Post by Mohuss »

Is there specialist that people use in the Bucks area who knows their way around RX8s? Who are you guys using and vouch for as id prefer a reputable garage working on my car.

Looking to do consumables- pads, discs, service etc. And if possible a compression test.

Thanks guys

Hiya, I can help with the comp test , just down the 404 in Cookham. The other bits you mention are pretty standard stuff so don’t really need a specialist (though I realise it is preferable)

I agree with Nick.

I go to Boston Rotary (BigPete) for RX8 specific stuff and he has a treasure trove of parts. I do oil and filter changes, spark plugs and minor maintenance myself and take it to local engineers for brakes, discs and other generally car things.

*waves* from Holmer Green here... Brakes are not too bad to do yourself (if a bit daunting at first). Lodge Garage t'other side of Aylesbury are about the only local Mazda garage around here, and they were very curteous and professional doing the airbag recall on my R3...

However for servicing over past few years I've been using the likes of Nick/ 13Black Rotary & Luke Murdoch (who's work was high quality, but unfortunately cannot avail himself as he's spending some time at Her Majesty's pleasure! :( ) for the main service items. (Reminds me: Probably "overdue" due to Covid and prior to booking some Track days this year!).

Where's Big Pete located?

He's in the countryside south of Boston, Lincolnshire. Surrounded by some fun roads.

One of the (many) things I like about going to bigpete/Boston Rotary is that he has his own large workshop on his own land. I really dislike going to garages where you have to squeeze your car into a space in a busy car park on an industrial estate.

If you guys in Bucks don't fancy going that far then I also recommend Fergus at FW Motorsport in Swerford. He's great too and second choice for me only to bigpete.

Ryan Rotary Performance aren't much farther North in Rugby. (Carl can correct me if Scott's workshop has moved)

You guys in that region are spoilt for choice :D

When I put my Rex back on the road I'm going to need someone to service and MOT it, any suggestions?

Like Sean I was planning to get Luke round.

I go to BigPete also. It’s a bit of a travel but you get someone who knows what they are doing, you can see what’s happening and you don’t get ripped off or pay main stealers hourly rates if something is wrong. The nearest Mazda dealer is a mile from me and other than recalls I haven’t taken it there for about 9 years.

Is Nick (13Black) still doing that kind of stuff (and has he relocated from Leicestershire?).

So just abit of an update, I made a visit down to Select Motorsport in Theale this morning for discs, pads, braided lines, fluid, fresh coolant and an oil and filter.

Was a really good experience with Dan and Matt who gave me lots of advice when it came to car care and general chat about cars. I highly recommend anyone in the area to use them and was 100% worth the trip down today.
