Can anyone confirm if 192/231 front brake calipers are compatible with an R3? Front drivers side piston is seized so looking for replacement. Thanks

Re: R3 Brake Caliper
The entire inner break pad wore out. Tried compressing with g clamp and took a lot of effort to get it to compress back for the new pads. Worried that if I reuse it will happen again.goodeggbob wrote:How long has it been sticking?

Re: R3 Brake Caliper
If the inner pad is wearing out then it's more likely that the slide pins have seized, either through lack of lubrication or the wrong grease used which has caused the liner to swell.

Re: R3 Brake Caliper
Pins were a bit crusty when I pulled them out.
Should the piston be moving freely. It took a lot of effort to get it to compress back into the cylinder. Now that it is compressed back in I’m not able to get it back out again. Any suggestions?

Re: R3 Brake Caliper
Did you remove the cap from the fluid reservoir before pushing the piston back?
Did you check that the outer surface of the piston was rust free, under the dust boot?
It should take hydraulic (or air) pressure to get the piston back out.

Re: R3 Brake Caliper
Provided that the piston was rust free under the boot, you should be able to use the brake pedal to push it back out but use a disc width spacer to stop it going all the way out.
Repeat this a few times to make sure the piston moves freely, and if it does, the problem lies in the slide pins. All this assumes that the caliper is still connected to the hydraulics.
