Just been catching up on YouTube and spotted an RX-8 build that the rather large american channel "Fitment Industries" are doing i'm loving how there are some youtube videos/series that are still coming up on the RX-8 over the past few years and even to now, there's definitely still some love out there for the cars, and videos like these help more people see what it's all like! Ones i've seen like TheStraightPipes, DougDeMuro (admittedly Doug isn't a fan, but still good to see some attention to the car ), Car Throttle's LWAR Series (Hi Dan! ), Collete Davies, Garage of Luke, some focussed RX-8 channels like Driven By Madness & Japanda Tuning, even our own local specialists Essex Rotary & Rotary Revs and now the newest video from Fitment Industries (below).
What do you guys think about the seeming uptick of reviews, videos or even series on the RX-8 over the past few years? (or my casual listing of most of the videos I know of and have watched hah! ) I'm really liking that there's still attention and interest in the car, i'd love to say that I can tell what it's like or the general thoughts on the car as a whole by most people, but i've been on the inside looking out for a while now, so i'm not quite sure will be really cool to see what they get up to with it though and how it looks at the end!

Re: Living with a rotary Mk.2 (American version - Fitment Industries)
It is great that people are keeping an interest in the car and also doing their own thing. It may not be what I would do but who am I to say what someone can or cannot do to their own car.
I've not seen this fitment industries chap before but he has done well to get some support from companies. At least I can understand his accent which is normally a struggle with some of these American videos. I have to turn the subtitles on at times, which opens up a whole new lexicon.
Doug De Muro - I cannot understand why anyone watches more than half of one of his videos and then watches another. He is dull as ditch water and doesn't inspire confidence in the watcher that he knows what he is talking about. It's like he has gone to some websites, nicked a few lines from other people's reviews and stitched them together. The Japanda channel is the same.
If I hear one more presenter saying '50/50 weight distribution' I am going to throw my laptop across the room. I mean, for you racing boys I have no doubt that it makes a big difference in your world. But for those of us who pootle to the shops, whizz down a country road and do about 2000 miles a year there could be an anvil in the boot and we wouldn't notice a thing.
I do love DBM, though. And the Car Throttle vids got me interested in the RX8 again. And Collette.....more, more, more, more!

I have to agree with the Doug De Muro comments, I can't stand that guys.
As mentioned above it's great to see RX8s being tinkered with. I enjoy most car/bike modding stuff. but it's always more interesting when it involves something you own yourself.
What I am sick of seeing are videos titled something like 'the truth about owning an RX8' and then they go on to bitch about a weak engine and crap mpg.

Re: Living with a rotary Mk.2 (American version - Fitment Industries)
I had known and seen a few FI videos previously, it's almost like a much more Americanised and modification focussed version of Donut Media (even though that's already american enough hah!) I believe that they're a retailer for the NA region, so they do the videos as a sort of side venture/social media outreach. Pretty cool though if you ask meSmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:30 amI've not seen this fitment industries chap before but he has done well to get some support from companies. I feel like Doug is one of those people that pioneered the space, but then because he was there and doing it, he just somehow kept growing and growing because you can't replace them as a person/presenter as people are used to them, and he's not all that great, just it would be really hard for someone to fill the same space now as him. The main use to his videos is if you want a close up look at one specific part of a car because he covers it all rather than scouring the googles for a certain photoSmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:30 amDoug De Muro - I cannot understand why anyone watches more than half of one of his videos and then watches another. Japanda is almost in a bit of a different position to Doug though. More of a younger and less knowledgeable DBM in his style and aim for the channel, but without the confidence or certainty in his info (and doesn't really convey any excitement while he just talks ). I'm almost in the same boat. I don't know enough, i'm still picking things up and learning - so if I regurgitate the wrong stuff and don't do my due dilligence first, I could end up saying the wrong stuff and also learning incorrect things admittedly I ain't making informative youtube videos, so a bit of a different ballgame, but still, such is life and we've all still gotta learn somewhere hah!

Honestly, I was kind of interested in the 8 before Car Throttle's LWAR, but that did definitely spark it even more and that series along with Collete's were the first that I really watched with the intent of knowing I wanted to get one of these lovely cars now own one and still love to watch these sort of videos hah!SmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:30 amI do love DBM, though. Calcifur - I bet you'll like the Garage of Luke video then hah! I feel like a lot of people who do that are the guys that always know the rotary for the 90s RX-7s and bash on the 8 as it is worse in every way... I mean, sure - on paper yeah, but it's fundementally a different car for a different purpose/market almost or they'll just generally pick one that's blown up and been done in by the previous owners hah!Calcifur83 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:05 amWhat I am sick of seeing are videos titled something like 'the truth about owning an RX8' and then they go on to bitch about a weak engine and crap mpg.
