Pre mix oil
Apologies firstly as I know this has been asked many times
Person I got the car off said to use castrol power 1 for premix is this OK to use ? Or should I use something different?

Re: Pre mix oil
You know what? There is so much opinion out there and I think you have to read a little and decide which wisdom you'll follow. I am no oil expert. Actually, I am no expert on anything! But I love reading and researching and gathering info.
I know about the Idemitsu. I've read about Protek-R. And I am currently running two different oils in the SOHN adapters in my RX8s.
As far as I am concerned more money does not always equate to a better product. I accept that some/many companies spend a fortune on R&D and need to recover that investment and be rewarded for the fruits of that research and development. But as long as I am using a 2 stroke oil that is designed specifically for racing engines and is ashless and fully synthetic then I am happy.
When my current stocks of Motul and Castrol Racing 2 Stroke Oil are depleted I will be buying this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXOL-SYNTHET ... 0679968363
Some people may think I am not doing the best for my engines but as far as I am concerned this has all of the attributes that I am looking for in a 2 stroke oil to protect my engine.
Others are free to disagree and do with their cars precisely as they wish.

Re: Pre mix oil
I have been using Exol for 10years on my RX8 - brought the car at 26000miles and currently on just under 84000 and not needed a rebuild...the car is fitted with a Sohn adapter and I also premix. So guess it does not matter what brand you use as long as you do as anything Jaso D certified will do its job and protect the engine....

Re: Pre mix oil
I'll eventually have to decide on this one hah! I got given two bottles of the old red style idemitsu stuff alongside a few other bits when I got the car - and i've still got one and a half left it'll take me a while to need to change to something else

Re: Pre mix oil
I tend to put in about 100 per tank, but it varies from people putting 50-150 in. Others may have differing opinions on it, but i'd say 150 is ok

Re: Pre mix oil
I did 100ml per tank but rarely actually got down to less than a quarter of a tank remaining.
I don't bother pre mixing now I have the SOHN. I know others continue to pre mix when they have a SOHN fitted but I don't do many miles and I'm not a speed merchant so the car does get beeps but it's not screaming around a track.

Re: Pre mix oil
A Sohn makes no difference to the logic regarding premixing.
A Sohn (of COFS) just means that the injectors get fed with clean 2T (or whatever) oil rather than consuming sump oil.
This means that the injectors are less likely to get blocked, but that's not why people premix anyway.
Premixing is mainly due to the limited coverage of the injector spray pattern, which Mazda acknowledged by fitted extra injectors on the R3, so premixing provides that additional coverage for S1's; Sohn or not.

100-150ml per tankfull is typical. Double that on track. It doesn't have to be precise.

Re: Pre mix oil
I used to carry around a little bottle pre-measured with the oil. I'd wrap it in kitchen towel and pop it in a zip lock bag. But even that got sticky. So I just kept a 1l bottle of 2T in the boot and gave a rough squirt of oil and used the sight channel on the side of the bottle to guesstimate.
It is not an exact science so I didn't mind if one fill up 80ml went in and the next fill up 125ml went in.

Re: Pre mix oil
I've got a basket full of stuff in my boot evidently a previous owner at some point got the rotary bum kit imported, so I have two bottles and a filler neck, plus the 2T idemitsu and a 5L 10w40 bottle for oil top ups... I feel spoiled when I can measure it all out in my fancy bottles like some science experiment!

Re: Pre mix oil
I seem to remember RRP recommending two different Motul 2 stroke oils depending on whether you were pre mixing or SOHN ing.
Can’t remember which way round or the reasoning but maybe Carl will clarify.
I always used 710 and put an approx 120ml squirt in every fill up.

Re: Pre mix oil
Just been out to the garage to check - I inherited some bottles of Motul 710 when I picked up the PZ and it has a SOHN and it had the same oil in the tank. Looks like thick Creme De Menthe!
I've got Castrol Racing 2T in the 192 SOHN tank but I've got some bottles of Protek-R and so top up the tank with that because they're both red.
