Seal in rear brake caliper rebuild

Post by AndyBrad »

Hi. I've got a seal in my caliper rebuild kit that I can't find a location for.

Any ideas?
I've got the 2 pin boots, piston seal and boot oring for the handbrake mech and boot fir the handbrake mech.
So I'm bit stuck really.

Isn't there a seal underneath the piston?

If Im not incorrect (which I maybe Im not entirely sober...) that seal you should have 2x of? If thats the case then its one that fits to the rear calliper after you've wound the piston out.. That bit was a bit too complicated for me so I left it how it was when I dissassembled my spare calliper set.

The square part should sit in the channel where the brake pad goes.

So managed to get everything swapped over this weekend. Fairly straight forward and the DIY tutorial on here was great. Many thanks for that.

Let me know of anyone wants a set of calipers cheap to refurb.
The seal kit pistons and all bits were from frentech and were of good quality. Only thing to note is the bolt heads on a lot of the bolts were the next size down from the original ones.

This is my next job, refurbing the front calipers. Kit is BrakeParts/Budweg though, pistons are BiggRed. Even replacing the clips.. :D
