Holy crap I actually thought it was someone else with the same name! Really shocked by this!

Luke has done some excellent work for me, had no idea, hope he gets the help he needs.

When I first saw this I was under the assumption it was another Luke from Worthing.

I was also under the impression that Luke was from the Dorking area so thought this could give Luke a bit of aggro mistaken identity etc.

I’m from the old school you know right from wrong.
Trust me I’m no angel/saint
But this is totally wrong on all levels.

I personally don’t want anything to do with this person.

I’m saddened to hear this. Over the years I’ve met many people who I really liked and turned out to have an evil side.

I’m a flog ‘em and hang ‘em type of guy, but I sound a note of caution here. He has been sentenced to a period of hell in jail and a hard life when he gets out for what, although clearly evil, is relatively low on the scale of sex offences. He will have a hard enough time as it is getting his life back together, which needs to happen if he is to be rehabilitated and avoid a cycle of offending, and IMO the club should not punish him further.

I realise what I say above may be unpopular, particularly to those with young daughters ((I have none, only sons). I don’t want this thread to degenerate and be deleted so please accept this as my view and I will accept yours without argument.

The problem is we don’t know what else he has done.
What or how far would he of gone if not caught.

I’m absolutely fuming and that’s my last words.

Never met him and with a soon to be 10 yr old daughter in the house, I'm glad I never employed his services.

I never quite understood why he was willing to travel so far and wide. Always thought that was a little odd. The mind boggles at who may he have been meeting with on the way on those extended trips outside of working on the cars.

I know a defence barrister and these are the cases he hates most. He freely states that there is no (legal) cure/rehabilitation.
Whilst they've convicted him of xyz, it's often just the tip of the iceberg.

Rehabilitation is vital for most convicted criminals to be able to reintegrate in society. For instance, people who steal are often from poor or desperate backgrounds and there is clearly a reason that they are resorting to crime. With the correct support and procedures in place, they can more often than not reintegrate back into society.

However, there are some instances where rehabilitation is basically impossible, such as in sociopaths and paedophiles. Following an 11 year old into a toilet with the intention to photograph their genitals from inside a toilet cubicle is not something that you can exactly help an individual rehabilitate from. Quite frankly I think the justice system has completely failed the British public - 9 months is a pathetically short sentence, and realistically he won't serve more than 5 months with good behaviour.

I think anyone in this group, especially those with children should be seriously considering if they would trust an individual like this around their family should he ever decide to come back into the Rotary scene after his sentence.

It’s good that the matter has been discussed maturely here, personally I have been very shocked by this as I dealt with him a lot and got on well with him - like most people.
I can sympathise with the people who have said they feel ashamed/embarrassed to have recommended his services to others.
I don’t think he would be silly enough to try and resurrect his business and whilst I hope he can continue a life without a repeat offence, no way would I deal with him again.

Well that was a depressing read. I hope that therapy is mandatory as part of his sentence, and that the SHPO is strictly enforced. Fingers crossed there's some rehabilitation that happens.

Following on from comments above, I was intrigued by how common such voyeuristic activities are and how they are treated.

Apparently voyeuristic behaviour is quite common, albeit mostly limited to such activities as upskirting and dogging. Upskirting isn't necessarily a crime here and in the US. The rarer cases where voyeurism descends into sexual offences seems to be treatable as articles like this one show, at least in the short-term, but I couldn't find anything on the success rate long-term.

I think you’ll find you are incorrect about the law...
What is the law around upskirting? The long-awaited law against “upskirting” came into force on April 12, 2019, in England and Wales - it was already a criminal offence in Scotland. If you catch somebody doing it the perpetrator can be arrested under the new offence, and face up to two years if convicted.

The details of the bill are available eg here.

Quoting:
5. This Bill will insert two new offences into the Sexual Offences Act 2003 for instances where, without consent, a person operates equipment or records an image under another person’s clothing with the intention of viewing, or enabling another person to view, their genitals or buttocks (with or without underwear).
6. The offences would apply where the offender had a motive of either a) obtaining sexual gratification, or b) causing humiliation, distress or alarm to the victim. The bill would also ensure that the most serious sexual offenders (where the purpose of
As there are grounds where 6a) and 6b) don't apply, for example with the rejection of amendments to include ‘financial gain’ and ‘entertainment or amusement’ I think my comment that upskirting is not necessarily a crime is correct.

And bloody right too. This law has been required for some time and I am glad that it is now on the statute books in England.

A good law. And it protects men in kilts, at least in theory, which pleases my mate who plays bagpipes at weddings and the like where hardly one goes by without a woman trying to find out what he wears under his kilt.

But of course, that would be considered harmelss drunken tomfoolery.... not a criminal matter.

He tells me the only difference that it's made is that he now gets action from organisers. It doesn't deter women from lifting his kilt, pinching his bottom or trying to take photos. He was told by a policeman friend that the police wouldn't be interested unless he claimed that it was homophobic (he's Gay), but he's a private man and doesn't want the publicity.

His friend in a Scottish piper group, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers (boom boom) made the papers recently over the issue.

Its seems the world continues to go mad what with some house lords peer calling for 6pm curfews for ALL men so women feel safe...its the actions of a very small percentage of men that unfortunately and unrationally tars all us men with the same brush.
What he did was sick and depraved and so glad he was caught before escalation of his perversion.....
His actions effects rightly or wrongly all of us and its seems mens freedom. If we as a society wish to keep females safe then he should not be let out until 100% percent he is rehabilated if thats even possible. With such a short sentence i dont think that is possible...the only other way to stop reoffending is fear of the consequences of being caught...
2 strikes...if he or anybody else reoffends then life in prison no release.

Mmmm. From what I read on the various forms of voyeuristic disorders, prison is unlikely to affect the underlying causes and the length of the sentence beyond one that disrupts the offender’s life has little effect. Medical and psychiatric treatment within a monitoring programme seem to be the only effective responses, but their effectiveness is debatable, not least because the perpetrator often has other mental health issues or been a victim of sexual abuse themselves. Perversely, the isolation likely after release seems to result in perpetrators’ being more likely to reoffend or move to other activities such as extreme pornography.

Unfortunately, spending money on criminals rather than victims is deeply unpopular with the voting public and even before Covid the NHS’s mental health services were vastly over-stretched. IMO there is therefore a high probability that Luke will offend again.

On a separate issue, the articles I’ve read on what Luke did disturb me for another reason. Why would any sane person take the risks of being caught that he did? Going into the women’s toilets in an area under CCTV surveillance with a high risk of someone walking in on him seems bonkers.

From reading the article it sounds like he had done this many times before and 'got away with it'. So perhaps he got over confident / more bold with his locations.

I respect others opinions but I'm very much for firing up the wood chipper for these sorts of crimes.

Weather he was good at his job/reliable/friendly is irrelevant.

He followed and then took pictures of an 11 year old child.

You will never answer the question why mankind/womankind does this sort of thing considering the consequence of their actions, look at the school teacher who had relations with a 15 year old pupil, she was married had a career in teaching and is now finished while sitting in prison.

Wayne Couzens elite gun cop married with two children - facing a trial - why?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I never even noticed this!

That is until I sold my car today and on talking the the chap he started to discuss my compression tests and the person that did them! He googled Luke out of interest and found all this.

I was quite ashamed that I had even put his name on my for sale listing and didn't even know! How can people be so sick in the head.
