Out of hibernation - please help!
Hello everyone. I took my baby out of hibernation and I've run into some problems. I've changed the battery as the old one was too weak (got a Varta E23 new now). After a few attempt to get it living again (alternating between cranking normally and cranking with the acceleration down to avoid flooding) the engine started...but it started while my foot was on the acceleration. I've done the reset (laft and right and centre) but I still have the engine light on and the traction control icon on. The engine is limited to 2000 rpm, I didn't even try to drive. It sounds good, normal, the was some smoke (white after it started) now the engine has warmed up and there is nothing coming out of the exhaust (visually). The engine starts 1st key warm. PS: I've tryed the rapid brake x20, still didn't reset.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
The TC light requires a cycle on and off to reset after the battery has been disconnected.
Do you have a check engine light on?
If the engine doesn't rev it could be that your throttle body is stuck it the connection to it is dirty, but ideally you need to get a code reader on it

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
If its limited to 2000rpm and its in limp home then I'd expect there to be a check engine or other fault light on ?
if not then a scan tool isn't going to be much help

A good scan tool that can do live monitoring will still tell you what's going on, even if there's no CEL to check.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Is it revving slowly to 2000rpm if you put your foot hard on throttle? A throttle pedal reset may be required

Go to the technical manual in the members area
Look at engine/on board diagnostics/P2109

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
The code relates to TP sensor minimum stop range/performance issues. I had a similar issue once but it went away after reconnecting the battery and cleaning the throttle body. Couldnt say which did it. Also resetting the PCM I think helped when I had it.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Throttle butterfly could be stuck, it might be worth gently moving it by hand (with power off) as you don't want it to trap your fingers

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
I've cleaned and moved the butterfly valve. I would say it's not stuck. I'm taking it apart again to check if the butterfly opens (while the engine is off). If everything checks out, can someone please explain how to reset the throttle pedal? Can it be because of the way I started the car? Again, engine started while I had the acceleration pedal down.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Out of curiosity did you clear the code to see if the engine light came back on after you cleaned the throttle body?

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Will try to find the full process for pedal reset but from memory , ignition on (not engine), depress pedal fully for about ten seconds, release for same then depress for another ten.
Release accelerator , turn off ignition and start engine as normal

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Starting the engine with your foot on the throttle, especially after a PCM reset, can cause all sorts of issues, and confusion in the systems.
I suggest you go through the PCM reset process again, from scratch, with a cold engine, and see if that sorts it.

Thank you very much for your input. I'll let the engine cool and battery disconnected to give it another try later.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Update. With the engine cold, I've done another fresh reset (ignition to on - 20 brake pedals, ignition off, on again start then left - right - centre). I've let it do its thing for 20 minutes. After about 12 minutes it started to rev itself intermitently. I've turned the engine off, On again, the P2109 is still there, if reset it comes back, rev limit 2600 rpm. Please help, I don't have with what to go to work on monday, I've slipped on ice with the daily driver and destroyed it.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Have you tried cleaning the connector to the throttle body(both on the throttle body and the wiring harness) I know it is susceptible to cold and wet weather(had issues myself in the past)

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Would try cleaning it if it's damp or dirty it can cause issues and is cheap and easy to do

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
agreed and also do the same for the throttle pedal sensor in the footwell
if this doesn't help it's time to measure the continuity between the throttle body socket and ECU socket for all the related pins
anything more than 3 ohms and there's wiring issues

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Joy oh joy. Baby is back alive! I did another PCM reset (thinking that the cold of the night will get things right). I had the same error...but I used yet another OBD to erase the code...3rd time lucky. I'm still not sure if it was the scanner that did the trick or the fact that I've deleted the code for the 15th time today. Moral of the story, try multiple OBD scanners.

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
Could be that the warmer weather has dried out the connections, either way congratulations

Re: Out of hibernation - please help!
New problem discovered out of hibernation. At the begining I had a ''ugga dugga'' noise + vibration comming from the left side brakes. I assumed the disks got warped / tainted, so I changed everything (disks and pads). I still have it but very little and only at high speeds, which is more concerning. Could the sliding pins get damaged, as I drove with that noise / vibration for about 50 miles (albeit very slowly with minimal brake use, mostly engine brake). Can this be caused by deformed tyres?
