Stock ECU mini map - worth the hastle?

Post by Jeags »

Hi all,

I've been toying with the idea of getting my 8 mapped for a while now. It's a (pretty much) stock PZ and am enjoying it a lot as expected. Just wondering what people's opinions on mapping from a reliability standpoint are as I do daily the car as my commute is around 40 mins across b roads so is really fun in the 8. After looking on the rotary revs website (my closest specialist that offers this), I think the argument is that there are a few subtle adjustments that can be made to improve reliability, the main being coolant fan turn on temperature and cold rev limiter. Just wondering whether people think it's worthwhile or better spending money on other aspects as it seems like it'll be around £300/£400 mark.

Thanks again,

Joe

All the things that are tweaked in a minimap are Quality of Life improvements and longevity boosters. I think it's definitely worth it if you have the chance.

I had the RRP minimap done on my 192 and it was worth every penny of the £50 it cost. Maybe book an appointment with them and have a chat?

For a mini map alone it shouldn't be more than 100 quid odd. 300 to 400 quid is around actual mapping prices as far as I'm aware.

The benefits of a mini map being OMP rates, cold rev limiter, higher idle and possibly secondary air pump delete code removal. Might be something I'm forgetting. But RRP price that at 80 quid. With their remote mapping and advanced mapping costing 275 quid or so.

The benefits of a fully custom map would be AFR tuning, actually being able to map to the specific engines capabilities (since no two engines are identical) as well as the mini map options. Plus a few other things I've likely forgotten.

Right, I see cheers. I'm not sure where they got that price from then. Will give them a call today to clarify it all. I'm happy to do it especially if it's cheaper than originally planned.

Just to chip in as I've re-mapped my car with Mazda edit and would say the gains to be had over the stock map are very worthwhile as you pickup a surprising amount of mid-range where the car is rather lean as stock

wasn't ryan rotary offering a remote mapping service where the he posted you out a laptop , I think this was cheaper than the usual £400 ish

RRP full/advanced/bespoke mapping is only £275. I've had mine done twice (I modded bits) and highly recommend them.

I had the RRP bespoke map(travelled down to see Carl) power has improved especially mid range and I've noticed better fuel economy(1-2 mpg) add to that the engine longevity improvements id say it's worth it

If it’s a pretty much stock car, I think the benefits of a full custom map will be minimal. A good “mini” map will improve the longevity just as much and there is a great degree of variance as to what you can do with them these days such as throttle body fiddling, custom omp and dwell settings and maybe even a pop and bang overrun if you’re that way inclined !
Best bang for buck for a stock car me thinks
