Top Tier Coilovers

Post by Django91 »

Wondering if anyone has tried any of the top end coil overs such as Bilstein PSS9 or the KW V3 or Ohlins DFV which seem to be 'holy grail' brands, has it improved the car significantly?

Which seem to be the best coilover for the rx8, ie. great cornering performance combined with smooth ride as well.
PZ suspension seem to be highly rated, wondering if the Tein/BC/Meister Coilovers cut it or there is a compromise.

I considered Ohlins and I have no doubt they would be superb, but would I really appreciate the difference or get the the benefit out of coil-overs that cost twice what I paid for my Tein Monosports?
At the time I did my research I could not find anyone who had used Ohlins, KW3’s or PSS9’s on an RX8. It would be great to get some direct feedback though so hopefully someone reading this can help.

Totally agree
No doubt the ohlins will be top of the tree as they are in most applications
That’s where I’ll be going on my next build so feel free and buy some , you could then . Give some accurate feedback

Ohhhh
Is that his opinion ?
Sounds promising
Think only downside of the ohlins is that they are advertised as fast road and race
Where as Meisters do say
Not for road use .......

You could be right
When I bought mine around 5 years ago it
did say on the instructions that they are for motorsport only
Not for use on public highway

As said
You could be right
But it does say designed for
Maybe
Not compliant then
It definitely said it , at the time I was debating whether to return them and get tein
However , many years later thing could have changed

Not RX-8, but my RX-7 FD specialist doesn't really rate the Ohlins and recommends Meister R's instead.

I've had both Teins and Meisters on my various RX-8s, and haven't quite passed judgement on them, although do enjoy their track manners. They do ruin the ride for road driving, but I'm ok with that given my limited miles. Also, all of my fastest lap times have been set on oem suspension with the only mod being stiffer arbs.

Alan’s last statement says a lot. If you just update the ARBs then you will reduce tge body roll in corners and won’t notice a significant change in ride quality as your spring rates will be largely unchanged.

That's more or less where my current setup is, roll bars and springs, but I've been experiencing some interesting traits with my car, thats on my other thread, ''Is the RX8 a 10/10ths car''.
