PZ alloys standard colour

Post by Neilparry »

Could anyone in the know enlighten me as to what the OE original colour paint is on the PZ alloys.

The post that I linked to is quite old and Rover colours aren't as common as they used to be.

It would be great if someone could find a more contemporary paint that's a good match, and we can update that reference thread.

Touching up alloys needs a bit of luck to get a good match, i have built up a selection of various silvers and it can be trial and error before you get a good match, I usually prime some strips of masking tape then top coat with a few silvers and that look similar then lacquer then when dry use them as a swatch to compare.
I did a 40th Anniversary wheel and for that I found a silver but had to finish it with a very quick light waft over with gloss black to get it right.

Trouble is I’m not touching up I’m doing a full refurb.
So I want to match them as close as possible to the original colour

At least they should look similar to each other then!

IMO that Rover grey isn’t a good match, but it was the best off-the-shelf colour I could find when I tried to find better. I had to do a fair amount of mixing for touch-ups.

Now back to one, a white R3. Gone but not forgotten: 04 Tit Grey 231, 06 Copper Red Evolve (231), 09 VR R3, 10 Aurora Blue R3, 06 Black PZ; RX87 13BREW project car ;-( ; 04 White with Greddy turbo conversion ;-(

Buying a used RX8 turbo is like marrying a stripper.

You can find a difference in colour between different makes ie Halfords own, CarPlan, Hycote etc
If you can find a sliver that is a close match and do all the wheels you will not notice the difference from the original colour unless an original wheel is placed right next to them even then you would have to be really critical to notice any difference.
