Pz center cap interest?
This is a bit of a follow-up from the advert that I spotted on eBay with the crazy prices for a brand new full set.
After noting intrest from members for oem standerd replacements, thinking of having a crack at making some sets.
Basically id like to know if its worth my while.
Two questions.
Who's interested?
And how much would you expect to pay?
Ive had a little look at parts needed, but havnt committed to it yet, but im confident i can achieve a like for like replacement, apart from they wont be officially
oz /mazda parts.
Im happy for admin to move this to group buys ect, but thought this might be a place to start.
Thanks
Kevin

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Id second that. £50 sounds reasonable.

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Yes please. I'd be willing to pay up to £20 a cap, probably go for around 8 in total, to future proof myself.

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
It's always interesting asking for people's thoughts,,
From what ive seen on ebay, a scabby old cap tends to have the asking price of £40 plus p&p.
If i were to make some sets there is no way i could make them for £50,
Mine woukd be literally hand made, and im trying to future proof the de lacquering which these suffer from.
Maybe ill make a set and put photos up etc and go from there.
Always happy to get feedback

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Fair play, my £50 was because I plan to put my PZ wheels in to use as track wheels so given they are not the standard wheels for my car I don’t see any point paying more. If I actually had a PZ I would likely be prepared to pay more.

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Can you say what sorts of numbers you'd need to make it viable? I'd be willing to pay more if they were safe from delacquering etc.

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Fair enough. I haven't really a clue as to the process or how much it'll cost for the raw materials alone. Would be interested though if you make a set to see how it comes out and I would definitely save for them if it's a success, good luck!Keke wrote:It's always interesting asking for people's thoughts,,

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Hi all!
Just thought id mention im currently working on ideas to achieve what i deem a like for like replacement, but better!
There are two issues with these center caps, first one, is they are not lacquered! They have a plastic cover on them leaving yhe edgws exposed , so those who try to repair them, cant with the desired effect, or the plastic cover has come of completely, leaving a dull logo which needs replacing and spraying over.
And second problem is that the OZ caps have a chamfer on them, so they drop into the recess flush.
Basically i was hoping to find generic caps and work with those, but to make them perfect, i Need OZ caps,.
Good news is i think i have sourced some!
Bad news is time for them to get to me and extra £££!
Anyway enough rambling, when ive made something im happy with, ill let you all know.
Thanks
Kevin

Cool. I thought we'd put you off with our cheapness. Still interested at £££...

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
Well almost!
But i took it as a challenge to show yiu tight gits what you couod have! Ha
And went to the extreme of buying a set of pz wheels to use as a "template".
Basically ill make a set or two, one for me and the other can go to a member for a review and we can go from there.

Re: Pz center cap intrest?
I realised everone needs to physically see these should i make them before we put a price on them, so its all good.v-rex wrote:These are going to be good, I know it. Putting my coins ( sorry notes ), in the piggy bank in anticipation....Keke wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:04 pmWell almost!

Re: Pz center cap interest?
More progress in the sense of how and why the center caps are finished the way they are,,
Ive been speaking with a couple of printers regarding how to get the best results.
In the picture you will see a decal that i have purchased, you will notice that the "by" is slightly bigger than the original, this is because it cannot be cut any smaller, otherwise the machine would chew the word up, also to add, the surplus vinyl is removed by hand with a blade and tweezers!.
And have been told, that OZ would have had the logo digitally printed in reverse onto the clear plastic which is the actual finishe of the center cap,so thats why they have started to peel off.
So i short, the decal in the picture is the best i can come up with.
Id like your feedback if im to go any further with these.
All the best
Kevin

Re: Pz center cap interest?
Happy enough with the bigger "by", but would it be possible to flatten the bottom of the "b" so it's more like the prodrive lettering ? The "by" looks a bit odd as the rest of the lettering seems like it's been squashed but not that word ? It looks like it's a different font. Not a deal breaker but just wondering if it's possible to change ? Thanks !!

Re: Pz center cap interest?
I also agree,
Ive contacted the printer, asking if he can change the font of the "by" I'll keep you updated.

Re: Pz center cap interest?
Thanks! I thought i was being a bit pedantic, so glad you guys agree. The size seemed ok to me on first look but the font insteadly stood out, triggering my OCD radar.

Re: Pz center cap interest?
Bit of a update,
Got the new decals, and im really pleased with them,
These are my genuine pz center caps.
Striped back to raw carbon, and edges slightly bevelled, so the the paint would seal the edges better, to avoid the original problem.
Built up with a clear epoxy primer
Flat back with 1500
Panel wiped
Decal applied
Multiple layers of 2k clear coat.
I have a few sets of center caps which i will be applying the carbon to, but there is no reason they will be any different to the ones in tge photo,
I'll let the pictures tell the rest

Re: Pz center cap interest?
They look excellent!
I would consider these for my own car and it is not even a PZ!
I wonder if they will fit?
