Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
1. Have you received this recall notice? - Yes
2. Have you had the work completed? - No
3. If you have had the recall completed, which dealership did the work and roughly when? - N/A
4. If you have received the recall and not had the work done, what is your reason? - my car doesn't currently have any issues, based on member experiences so far it seems more likely to develop issues if I get the work done....
5. If you have had the work done, have you experienced any leaks? - N/A
6. If you have had the work done and not experienced any leaks, have you completely filled your tank at least once? - N/A
7. Did you experience any other issues, such as fuel the gauge reading incorrectly? If so, please give details. - N/A
The only think that worries me about not getting the work done is a pedantic insurance company potentially not paying out in the event of an accident by claiming the vehicle was dangerous/not roadworthy as the recall hadn't been done....

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
There were plans to make Outstanding Recalls an MOT failure.
This was put on hold just before the Covid lockdown, for "further consultation" it seems that some manufacturers were concerned that parts availability could be a problem.
It is now proposed that it will be an MOT Advisory and there's some discussion as to how many times (years) it would allowed to remain outstanding.

The rules in NI will be, as usual, different

3. If you have had the recall completed, which dealership did the work and roughly when? - N/A (it will be Croydon Mazda when I get round to it)
4. If you have received the recall and not had the work done, what is your reason? - Initially I was put off by tales of leaks after the work was done, so I 'put it off' to wait for any more info on if that was common or even more likely to happen than not. Then Covid and the lockdown happened as I was thinking I'd get it done, so that gave me another excuse to 'put it off' and my car doesn't currently have any issues.... then the MOT was due, so had that done first.

Quick bump, as I've only had 60 responses so far.
PLEASE, if you've had this work done, or not, we really need more data to determine the scale of any problems with the recall work.
It is clear a number of owners are holding back on getting this recall work done, having heard of the experiences of others. If that is the case for you, even more reason to respond here, so we are aware and can press to get the workmanship/process improved asap.

**SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
I’ve got a few recalls listed as outstanding on my car and I’m not interested in taking my car to a local Mazda garage as I am worried they’ll just mess it up.
I’d rather pay a specialist that cares about the outcome rather than just the time/profit available in recall work.
1. Have you received this recall notice? - No
2. Have you had the work completed? - No
3. If you have had the recall completed, which dealership did the work and roughly when? - N/A
4. If you have received the recall and not had the work done, what is your reason? - N/A.
5. If you have had the work done, have you experienced any leaks? - N/A
6. If you have had the work done and not experienced any leaks, have you completely filled your tank at least once? - N/A
7. Did you experience any other issues, such as fuel the gauge reading incorrectly? If so, please give details. - N/A

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
I am pretty sure there is an issue of your insurance becoming invalid if you do not have a safety recall done. Even though its not an MOT failure matter (yet) it is a known issue considered serious enough for a recall. The air bag issue has caused a death in the USA and whilst I am not aware of any fires being caused by the fuel seal ring deterioration just imagine your insurance claim for your burned out car, and potentially 3rd party claims for a damaged road surface or vehicles etc: nearby that were damaged being rejected as the recall was not done and therefore the incident could have been prevented. Yes I know there are several instances of fuel leaks after the work has been done but at least in those cases had a fire occurred liability would lie with the dealer who did the work, no real consolation for the ruined car though!

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
I have had recall work done on 2 cars we own,one an 04 for fuel ,airbag and front wish bones, the other an 07 Kuro for fuel, airbag issues.
The work was carried out by Furrows Mazda in Shrewsbury Shropshire ,with no complaints whatsoever from me,and i would not hesitate to recommend them, and have on several occasions on here.

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
Why on earth did I trust them to have carried out this recall correctly?
As I had not filled the tank since the recall work was carried out and with the renewed interest in some of the problems owners were left with I decided to run the tank down till the low level warning light came on and then take it to nearly empty so I could half fill it with 30 litres which would check the gauge was working at approx the half way mark.
Guess what I put 30 litres in turned the ignition on and now the gauge needle is stuck on its rest point and also the check engine light is on so it was back home to check and its fault P0463 which surprise surprise is the fuel level sensor.
So another brilliant job that "Mazda Trained Technicians" have managed!
Now anyone any suggestions where to start will the sensor be damaged/broken or what?

You should contact the dealer and tell them what the situation is and ask them what they are going to do about rectifying tge problem.Delanor wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:43 pmWhy on earth did I trust them to have carried out this recall correctly?

If you investigate and find an issue then you will have to buy any parts required and will have nullified any liability of the dealer.
It’s a safety critical area therefore the above is my strong recommendation.

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
This is the first ever time that a vehicle I own has outstanding recalls (to my knowledge, at least), and I was not surprised to find that I have 4 outstanding - 2x airbag inflators, 2x fuel tank leaks.
I am one of those that is hesitant to book this in, but ChrisHolmes makes a good point re insurance liability etc. So I better bite the bullet and get it booked in (edit: booked in for mid-November), but for the moment:
1. Have you received this recall notice? - No, looked it up on the Mazda website (I've only had the car since July)
2. Have you had the work completed? - Yes - 10/11/20
3. If you have had the recall completed, which dealership did the work and roughly when? - Arnold Clark Mazda, South Street, Glasgow
4. If you have received the recall and not had the work done, what is your reason? - N/A
5. If you have had the work done, have you experienced any leaks? - No
6. If you have had the work done and not experienced any leaks, have you completely filled your tank at least once? - Yes
7. Did you experience any other issues, such as fuel the gauge reading incorrectly? If so, please give details. - No
No issues after picking up the car on the 11th Nov and immediately filling the tank as full as possible.

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
I just thought I would check RR54 AJR and "hey ho its off to the dealer we go" I hope the technician doing the job is small enough to squeeze past the roll cage and the bucket seats!!!!! Plus I have a Walbro uprated pump cartridge like Malcolm which I fitted.

Re: **SAFETY ALERT: Fuel Tank recall - Fuel Leaks & Other Issues"
Don`t forget no more than 1/4 tank of fuel when you take it in then check the gauge accuracy and fill the tank to check for leaks afterwards. (1/4 tank is approx 15.25 litres so another 15.25 litres should show 1/2 a tank on the gauge approx`)rotatopotato wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 10:07 amThis is the first ever time that a vehicle I own has outstanding recalls (to my knowledge, at least), and I was not surprised to find that I have 4 outstanding - 2x airbag inflators, 2x fuel tank leaks.

Sorry Chris, but I used to throw away the recall notices as I thought with my luck, that car it would have been burnt me alive on the drive home.ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 10:18 amI just thought I would check RR54 AJR and "hey ho its off to the dealer we go" I hope the technician doing the job is small enough to squeeze past the roll cage and the bucket seats!!!!! Plus I have a Walbro uprated pump cartridge like Malcolm which I fitted.
