Yeah, I’ve got the higher one. I thought the one you have might get in the way of passenger leg room, but I’d be willing to give it a shot if it’ll allow me to use it for track days.New Duke wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 10:47 amI guess you're using the higher mount? The one on the vent? I found the trick was to use the lower Brodit mount. Keeps it well out of view of the marshals... and police. I've grown to love it down there. Faster to tap than up at the vent and still easy to glance at when using as a sat nav.

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
My hunch is I get CEL when I’ve been starting and stopping the car without fully warming the engine up. I always wait for the first temp bar to go out, but I often need to jiggle the cars around in and out of my garage and driveway. The RX-8 is mega fumey after this (the 100-150ml of Idemitsu per tank probably doesn’t help), but clears up following a good Italian tune-up.v-rex wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:23 amOh that's strange. I had mine in the high brodit holder at Snetterton and Silverstone for monitoring coolant temps and no one said anything. This will be annoying if someone kicks off as that's one of the things I wanted it for.R1DSO wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 9:59 amIt’s a nice piece of kit, although it doesn’t like connecting to my phone at the same time as my in-car Bluetooth receiver, which is a bit annoying.
Also, having spent the extra money on a lag-free reader predominately for track day temp monitoring, no marshals have actually allowed me to have my phone visible, even securely mounted in my Brodit phone holder.
So mine now pretty much gets used for clearing the CEL that lights up every now and then from my sports cat.
I used to use mine for that and the odd code that comes up ( the last one being something to do with my power steering which is why I was looking for my obd2 last weekend ).
Don't you have a racing beat CAT ? Mine has not errored at all yet in the time I've had it. But then I don't have the header like I think you do and maybe other bits.
Edit: What is the in car receiver? I have a GROM which worked fine now with my cheapo Bluetooth reader and that. Hope this fancy one can as well...
I’m using an MPOW BT receiver.

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
The marshalls at the last Brands Harch MSV event I went to were even trying to get me to rip out the Brodit holder (not just the phone) from its secure dash mounting .warpc0il wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:32 amMarshals at most track days are fine with phone/screens being visible, as long as they are securely fixed and being used for engine monitoring etc, and not for Live Timing; the latter being an issue for the TDO as it's often a big no-no in their event insurance.
I know the risk they’re trying to prevent is a phone going under a brake pedal, or becoming a missile in a crash, but they’re being a bit OTT imao. I’ve been trying to think of a way of tethering the phone with zip ties or the like, which is what we do at work when filming in-car race stuff for YouTube.

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
Thanks for the recommendation. This looks like it would help, but I believe the MSV marshals want a leash like a zip tie.
I use a ski pole mount around my rear view mirror for my GoPro and even that’s been scrutinised!

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
I have MOP increased on the ecu tune and I mix 1% in fuel tank (that is almost 4 time what you specified) and the car doesn't smoke on idle cold or hot.....

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
Despite decent compression, mine has always been pretty fumey tbh. Not as bad as a decatted RX-8, but not a huge amount better either. Often wondered if it has a vacuum leak, but haven’t been able to find one spraying brake fluid on the vac hoses I can get to.Milos_Balunovic wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 8:59 amI have MOP increased on the ecu tune and I mix 1% in fuel tank (that is almost 4 time what you specified) and the car doesn't smoke on idle cold or hot.....

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
I really don't know how much fumey you say you are, but im decat, toyo header and catback and the only fuem are vapour while exhaust is cold. And that has nothing to do with oil but that the Hydrocarbons (Petrol) when burbed with oxigen in air produce CO2 and H2O and skme misproducts loke CO and soot. While the exhaust is cold the H2O (also called water ) will condense in it.

Re: OBD II – the latest tech?
Good to know. Thanks for the context. I think my R3 is pretty fumey, but I did smell an R3 without a sports cat and that smelled a lot worse!Milos_Balunovic wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 5:50 pmI really don't know how much fumey you say you are, but im decat, toyo header and catback and the only fuem are vapour while exhaust is cold.
