It makes me sad that every St Georges day I tend to be in Scotland... But this time at least I'm not missing out on any free pints.

Can someone please tell me...

Why is it considered "racist" to celebrate St Georges day?
Why is there a St Patrick's Day parade in London, but not a St Georges day parade?

Because we as a nation are not allowed to celebrate national pride for some reason. Which is odd right? We are a nation of many cultures. And yet... No-one wants to celebrate the day that the entire country should celebrate... Because its too nationalistic I guess? Celebrating St Andrews day in Scotland for example, completely acceptable. St Georges day when I was at uni would have flags/etc in some shops and some pubs offering free pints with meals blah blah. But thats about as far as it ever went.

We celebrated it here, encouraged by the kid's school teachers by email which was nice. The kids and I read the folk tale of St George slaying the dragon, did some dragon themed yoga, then the kids made 'WANTED' posters for the dragon which are now pinned to trees in our garden. We also had a moral discussion on how the position of the King in the tale (who had been sacrificing maidens to the dragon by lottery) suddenly valued human life when his own daughter was picked in the lot) and then hired a champion. And I just had a beer to toast to our Saint.

Not going to let a loud few with their own nasty agenda undermine our culture. They seem to have forgotten that claiming a thing is racist doesn't actually make it so.

Probably helps the other nations that their Saint's days are effectively brand sponsored by breweries and distilleries. Just like how Coca Cola bolstered Xmas.

Is it considered racist to celebrate St Georges day, or is it more of a case that there is a perception that there is attempt for all things St George to be appropriated by racists, and people to don't want to risk being associated?

I would think it is better to drown those vile morons out with plenty of non-racist celebration so great work by New Duke. :thumleft:

Gotz to ask tho, what is Dragon Yoga like? :)

Yes that plus people assume, if you fly the St George's cross that you are supporting the racists.

Over here in NI the whole subject of flaaags is highly provocative.

But over in that neck of the woods, it don't take much excuse for a flag does it? :) Remember living in Wicklow towards the climax of the GAA season = at least 3 flags per house, as many as would fit in the garden and two per car, minimum :)

Have a go! Because it's aimed at kids most able bodied adults can join in. I highly recommend their Pokemon themed episode as well!
