Engine yellow light on not flashing

Post by bunch1980 »

Hi, All, so have not been on here in ages, as ever things gone crazy, and have been enjoying just driving the car when I can, its used even less now cycling to work to! did about 650 miles only last year!
Any how went to site for work today to do a survey, after going to local shop the yellow engine light is on but not flashing, back home no error/trouble codes showing on OBD thing on iphone app.
Sure before I had previous codes shown to but its been a while since I have used it.

Flashing would mean a misfire.

Steady ON, with the engine running, means there's a code (or more than one) you need to read.

What app are you using?

The ignition needs to be On and best if the engine is running

Pretty sure I had that p2259 code for ages. As I understood it, it was due to a secondary fan to get the cat up to temperature.... Didn't affect the drive at all. No limp mode or anything for me.

I'll try to see how I solved it but think it was a case of just taking out the connector, spraying the connector with contact cleaner and reconnecting. The wire connects just behind the intake, and can be reached by those with smaller hands and slimmer fingers than mine.

I'll look through my pack of service stuff with my rx8 if i get time tomorrow and see if I can find out anything more specific as to how I solved it.

Canbus interupt I think. My odb2 reader sets it off from time to time. Usually got on restart.

Starting the engine with an OBD transmitter connected can on some occasions upset the ECUs check routine.

I have P2259 pop up when I restart the car whilst its hot, then it randomly goes out at some point down the road. Was going to replace the solenoids but will try this first, lot less work than taking the intake off to change parts! Certainly has never made any difference to the drive at all.

I'm pretty sure that I didn't replace the solenoid to fix this, although could be wrong. I'll try to check later in my pack but today has been mayhem for me as usual.

I am sure I read on another rx8 forum, that the wire for this has to go in at an odd angle and due to heat etc can become loose or something.

Pretty sure that it was a case of disconnecting and replacing. I remember it being a blue connector and and in the middle of 3 similar connectors.

That’s your SSV valve rattling. Increase the revs slightly and it will stop? If you reach in ( be mindful of the belts on the running engine )and press the arm with your finger it will stop. Both the previous actions will confirm my comment.
Fitting a piece of rubber tube to the stop pin will cancel it out.
Nothing to worry about.

Get your battery cover back on when you can too. It'll work better and last longer.
