Recall work - anything to watch out for?
So im finally getting around to getting the recall work done on my 8.
I have notices for;
AF037A Replacement of Driver Frontal Airbag Inflator
AH022A Fuel Leak At Fuel Pump Mounting Ring
AH023A Fuel Leak At Fuel Pump Discharge Pipe
AJ046E Replacement of Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator
Having seen threads like this , im wondering if there is anything i should be mindful of, or any questions to ask Mazda specifically before allowing them to work on the car? I get the impression they're heavy handed and can make a bit of a mess of peoples cars when carrying out this work, some even going so far as to say they dont have much of a clue about what theyre doing (maybe because the car has not been produced for 10 years).
Any advice or things to mention to them/watch out for would be appreciated!

It is indeed the point of the forum. However alot of technical information and the like is for club members only and joining the club literally pays for itself with all the discounts etc. Plus the wealth of knowledge the club holds is insane.

Restricting access to safety related information?
Really?
Restricted access to discounts and events etc is understandable
I'm glad that the numerous forums and clubs I belong to don't have that attitude.
I'm now not encouraged to share my modifications and useful time and money saving tips I've learned the hard way

there is information there if you dont want to pay. just takes a little more searching to find it. i agree, safety information should be made a bit more accessible rather than trying to make the 'hard sell' every time someone asks a question.
in general, just try and use a reputable dealer. this is a good place to start, try and search for the dealer you are thinking of using:

I have had all mine done at the same local dealer and been really happy with the work. i have the passenger airbag recall this thursday. told me to leave the car with them for half an hour and it will all be done

The reason that thread is within the members only section is that it includes information that could be regarded as sensitive and we wouldn't want want Google etc to make it open house for just anyone, including Mazda Europe and their dealers.
Members have shared their experiences for other members, that they don't want open to the public
The access control can't allow permission to forum guests without just making it open session for the world.
Rather than whining about it, if you're committed to running the car then what's the problem with spending half the cost of tank of fuel to get access to the rest of the site? What you see as a guest is only the tip of the iceberg.
This forum was established by members, for members, and it's not that long ago since "guests" were only allowed to post up to 50 times before they either joined or left forever.

Re: Recall work - anything to watch out for?
I understand that some people would rather not let comments and views to be easily Google-able
( although, anyone , even mazda, if they want to see info on here will have joined anonymously )
Unfortunately, since redundancy, I cant justify luxuries.
So got time to do cheap/ no cost stuff to the car and would have appreciated info about" anything to watch out for"
Recall items tomorrow, so fingers crossed that my lack of info isn't to my disadvantage

Re: Recall work - anything to watch out for?
Wasn't impressed this time. This was for the passenger airbag recall only.
Clip that held the plug up and out the way of the gearbox was broken by their "technician". They also had some insulation tape caught in the plug connector. Incidentally when I opened the glove box the airbag warning light came on!!!
They have also managed to scratch up my glovebox and leave dirty fingerprints on the dash.
Noticed this all when I got home. They asked me to bring it back and I told them no as I have glued the clip back together for now.
Sent them pictures and told them I want a new glovebox and clip. I will do the work as I don't trust them to do it.
Awaiting a response.

Ah! sounds like you was lucky and you encountered that rarity - one of the better ones!dac69er wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 3:29 pm

What usually happens with clips is that they were not part of the course and when your "Mazda Factory Trained Technician" is confronted with said clips he is left with no alternative to release the clip in the most efficient and quickest method to deal with it, which is of course to break it
