I'm finding the seats in my RX-8 don't really offer any support when cornering with any kind of gusto. It's not so much that they lack side-support it's that I slide so far before getting to any meaningful support I fear I'll end up in the passenger's lap. So is there any sensible way to reduce the effective width of the seats or anyone who is fairly narrow set recommend alternatives?

Eat loads of cakes, bigger bum less slide, the cloth seats give a bit more grip or maybe an alcantera cover, might be worth speaking with an automotive upholstery company

I think I fall into the category of narrower people.
The most important thing is never to polish the seat or steering wheel.
Had the car cleaned once without telling them not to polish the wheel ( Lethal )
I’m used to driving like this and just wedge left knee against tunnel, right knee against door, right elbow against window. Left elbow in the passenger...where depends on the noise there making
You can just buy an out of date 3” race harness cheap and just use the lap belt part from left to right
Quick easy, cheap, effective

I'd go with Dave's suggestion of the CG lock
I've had one for years and moved it from TVR's, to cappuccino, Mr2 to RX8 its wihout a doubt one of the best automotive gizmos i've bought

Being a degenerate who likes to drive sideways, I've found the current combo to be plenty good enough:

- CG Lock
- Hobo-spec cloth seats instead the fancy leather / pleather / teflon / whatever they make it out of
- Peel back the cover on the bottom cushion and literally cut some of the foam out, crafting yourself a little hobo-bucket seat for your little hobo butt

I wish step 3 were viable for me... But I fail the "little hobo butt" aspect.

Yeah I dont fit in those R3 bucket seats way too tight.

I have a CG lock in my S1 and it does the job around track although you have to fit it backwards so it's a bit clunky hanging about. I dont use the car daily so not a major issue and dont have it enabled unless on track but I'm large and with a helmet on I'm wedged in anyway

CG lock gets another recommendation from myself. It really locks you into the seat. I'm a 30" waist and even so I'm pinned into my leather seat with one fitted backwards as per Shroom's comment. Superb invention, and I would hate to drive even a little spiritedly without it.

You don’t have to fit the CG lock backwards if you cut the top loop off the buckle which is just plastic with no metal inside and has no purpose other than to stop the buckle sliding down to the floor when released.

Can confirm Tom is a big boy

Going naked saves on having dirty clothes afterwards

It's not just on track you will get skid marks

Thanks for the replies. I'll try a CG lock (had one for a previous car but it didn't work so well due to the shape of the seat) if that doesn't work I'll see if I can find some R3 seats because they look great!

The CG-Lock works very well in any RX-8.

It's no coincidence that our Club Shop is currently the sole supplier for the product in Europe, and the Committee have just authorised the purchase of more stock to meet demand.

I dug out my CG lock and started using it. While it's a great improvement but the seat still isn't offering the side support I'd like - with sudden unexpected changes in side load and I'm still getting unwanted steering input. So I guess its find some R3 seats or look at aftermarket options.

If you've got "leather" seats try a sheet of grip mat as used in the boot to stop stuff sliding about.
