Oxford Driving Roads

Post by 30405 »

Anyone know of some good roads to go for a blast around Oxford way?

I know the "13 bends of death" fairly well and a few of roads off it but they are always busy.

Need to find something that can kill an hour or two after dropping my partner off in Westgate.

Traffic free roads around Oxford on a Saturday you have to be joking. You could drive across toward Bibury and then up toward the A40 and over to Cheltenham for a coffee!

I can dream no? It's not just for today but in general. I want to mix my routes up a bit. I'll just go for an aimless drive and hope I stumble across a nice stretch.

I'm hoping to find some nice routes to try and have a meet a tad more local to me at some point.

I'd be careful mentioning coffee's or you'll end up like Duncan having to put up with me Image

He's right Chris, I can't get rid of him now, I'm sure I saw him skulking bottom of the garden the other da....oh hey John sorry I didn't realise this wasn't a PM!

Left field, how about across the downs to Hungerford and back? Have no idea what that side of the downs are like (rarely go the other side of the Kennet & Avon, it's weird over there) but if they're anything like this side then pick a wiggly bit from the map and give it a crack!

13 bends is just outside of Reading. Infact it's my nearest fun stretch of road about a mile from my house. The amount of crashed vehicles I've seen there over the years is staggering. Right now there's a van lodged behind a tree up a 10ft bank. God knows how the driver managed to get it there!

The white transit.... Looks like something large went through the window and has been there for a while.

It would be a great road if it was for everyone being stuck behind the person doing 20 below the limit.

Possible to do a decent South Oxfordshire loop. Henley to Nettlebed to Sonning Common to Cane End, Goring, Wantage, Skirt Didcot then back East with some possible fun around Watlington, Christmas Common etc.

The road from Peterborough out to Spalding, you can see the route of the road across along the dike ahead by sighting the line of telegraph poles.

That is, until the lines of poles goes straight on but the road does a 90 left.

They had so many people go straight off into the fields that they planted a row of trees beyond the bend.

Now they just have to work out how to pluck the cars from 40ft up in the trees, as they use the bank on the outside of the bend as a launch ramp.

The road between Wantage and White horse hill/Uffington castle was always fun when I was a yoof. Lots of bends and dips. If you keep going you get to Swindon and the magic roundabout.

Head out toward me on the A44 and you'll end up in the Cotswolds in about 20 minutes. LOADS of amazing driving roads.
