I'm back to tie off a few loose ends
Engine failure diagnosis
The original engine failed at Spa, after 54k road miles, followed by 28 races:
viewtopic.php?f=104&t=57626&start=550
After tripping over the engine in the workshop ever since, I finally got around to disassembling it to see what did it.
The front rotor had lost a complete side seal on one side. On the other side of the same rotor, a side seal was broken in two, with one half gone missing. Quite a lot of damage to the iron on that side, too. So the original suspected diagnosis of side seal blocking the exhaust port looks credible.
Either way, I had a fun taking it all apart, and I now have some lovely rotary bits and pieces as momentos of my RX8 experience.
The next project
The RX8 made way for a BMW Z4 Coupe:
viewtopic.php?f=104&t=57626&start=675
It's still not ready... but I have a new project thread running for anyone interested:
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=112593 (no account needed to view)
Free stuff
I still have a few RX8 parts left over. Not much, but all free to a good home.
Gaz Gold coilover kit (fits OEM top mounts) - dampers and springs - suitable for track use, or road use with softer springs.
Alternator
Engine sensors (all of them)
Plywood templates for front splitter and rear diffuser (collection only)
Free to collect (SG8) or postage+beer. PM me if interested.
