Its Gone

Post by thegoose50 »

Well I had to let the Rx go, it was a tough decision as I really did enjoy the drive and the look of the car,but due to a Job change and it was the daily the extra miles and fuel consumption it just wasn't realistic, I was rather sad to see it go and was even more choked the guy who bought it Binned it on the way home....in the wet....after I warned him to take it easy as they are a little tail happy, the damage fortunately wasn't too bad apparently so he is repairing it.
So I replaced it with a Ep3 Civic type r which is track ready and in fantastic condition, also surprisingly economical even with playing with the Vtec on the long straights towards work now and again.
I'm going to stay as a member as everyone seems sensible especially when we were on track last year it was a fantastic experience for me one I hope too do more of in 2020 :thumright:

The change to RWD catches many buyers of RX8s out as all they have ever driven is FWD which is much more forgiving of power on in corners!

RX8 ownership is as I am sure you know not a pre requisite to be a member of the club and your are still welcome to attend our various meets and events.

After getting itchy feet again the Civic was wasn't cutting it, as much as I liked the look of it something was missing,So I decided to go back to Subaru and possibly made a very bad piece of judgement heart over head decision and its cost me dearly....the car in question Was a wagon 268bhp with proof, looked good and absolutely no rust anywhere which is what attracted me I didn't spend to much time on the Mechanicals as it sounded sharp and went ok.
So did an oil change which the oil was low ish the coolant too which didn't look to good either (alarm bells) drove 150 miles all fine then on the way home from work the Temps went through the roof...long story cut short the head gasket failed,in turn on removing the engine a new clutch was needed,Cambelt was total tosh,Radiator wasn't flowing correctly due to the amount of gunk in it kseal apparently, turbo inlet hose was split and dump valve packed up so all in all its cost me 2600 quid....so pretty gutted atm...the irony most people said the Rx would let me down however in 2yrs it never let me down once....Anyway the Scoob's up and running but its taken me a while to like it,unfortunately I haven't rejoined the club just yet all my cash is being diverted into other things, maybe I was lucky with my Rx I did love it so wish I could afford to run two cars otherwise I'd have another lol

It’s not the first time someone has sold their RX8 which never let them down only to have the replacement let them down. Hopefully the Scooby is now sorted and you can start to enjoy it.

Funnily enough I've had 4 other Impreza's all of which have been super reliable...how things change I certainly didn't do my homework just took it for granted all was good, apparently head gasket failure is Rife in older Impreza's, I still need to make it mine fortunately all of which I can do myself and won't cost that much once I've banged in some overtime lol
