Brake squeal only when cold

Noticed this more now with the cold weather but brakes squeal at low speeds until they are warmed.

If I don't get them warmed before breaking at speed its a little bit like a wobble board sound

But if they are warmed through then everything is fine....
Had new disks and pads summer before last iirc

what pads, some are just noisier than others....

my old Mintex pads were loud when under light braking.

They are mintex but just their normal OEM style

Could be glazing of the pads and / or deposit build up in the discs.
Do you always brake lightly or do you have occasional good hard braking applications. The latter should prevent glazing and clear any deposits.

Removing the pads, cleaning the backs and pins and then applying a fresh thin coat of Ceratec can often fix this issue, especially if the previous installation was left dry or copper grease was use.

They definately werent left dry when I fitted them. But a good clean is probably my first port of call.

If you are on 1144 compound they should not squeal at all

Some thought I did have.... I replaced the shims with the ones that came with pads as originals were very corroded and splitting at the edges is it worth trying to get some more?
And also had a load of grief trying to fit them as had to file pads metal edges down
Despite cleaning clips and calipers
(Also did sliders at the same time.)

Yeah they only dont squeal when your foot is reasonably hard down on the pedal, in fact embarrassingly loud when feathering the brake

Mine is worst pulling up to junctions or sitting in traffic.
But like I said above is more disconcerting breaking from speed if they haven't warmed.

Hmm! I have never had any squeaking from 1144 pads.

I wonder if this is a reaction to residue left on the discs from previous pad materials.

Pads are OEM mintex not 1144 and discs were new
And I'm out of bed at 4am due to hacking cough

Okay well didn't get to look at car due to last week's illness and catching up on work stuff..

Today the left rear brake disc seems substantially hotter than the rest. Think it must be binding a bit....
