The 8 will never rise in value really and will never go the way of the FD.The 7 is an iconic car and values have literally shot up in the past few years.

The 8 whilst being a cool car, especially the R3 ( I'm biased obvs ) just wont see an increase in values to an extent that you would keep one as an investment. If you own or plan to own a 7 then I say go for it all day long. You could buy one and if you never did anything to it apart from storing it you'd make a nice few bob from it in say five years
R3 GONE, FUN WHILE I HAD HER BUT NOW LOVING MY 25TH ANNIVERSARY MX5

The real question is where does the 40th-anniversary edition sit in the debate of s1 vs r3?! :D
The 40th is an S1, a really nice S1, but very much an S1. That's where it sits.

It's got really nice wheels and some features that were coming on the R3. Finding one for sale is the challenge as they are like gold dust. If you get one it's probably worth to keep it as stock as possible. I think they're one of those special rare cars that owners should consider themselves caretaker of, like an heirloom.

They do sell for more that standard S1s are still a bargain even when you see them going for nearly R3 money.

I still wouldn't buy one over an R3 though. I had the choice of a 40th or an R3 and chose the R3, for the reasons given earlier.

(Hopefully that's clear enough praise that I still think the 40th is an excellent car and won't be misinterpreted as me saying S1s are bad)
