The Mazda EPC shows eight different variations of screens for the S1, all based on part# FE28-63-900 with suffixes from B to H (some with a 9D tag).
The key seems to be the position of the VIN plate window, though I don't understand why this should change.
You need to input the car VIN to identify exactly which part # to order, with prices from £111.19 to £203.20
For the S2 (R3) there are only two variations; F191-63-900, with or w/o the 9D tag.
However, in this case the 9D tag version is shown as "Supersession parts" which means that it will fit a car originally equipped with the non-9D version. This is just as well as the older screen was £334.42 but the later one is only £107.40.
All prices dealer retail plus VAT.
Most large windscreen replacement companies, Autoglass etc, bypass the car manufacturer and source from 3rd-party suppliers, with much more variable quality compared to the OEM.
Years ago we had the screen changed on a Citroen and they had to do the job 3 times; the first had a bubble in the glass directly in my eye-line, the second had a wavy distortion right across the screen, which the fitter noticed when he was cleaning-up, the last one had the mirror mount bonded in the wrong place. In the end they found another mirror mount and bonded that is the right place, leaving the wrong one behind the mirror body.
It was only later that we realised that the replacement had a green tint whereas the original had a graduated tint, going from brown at the top down to lighter tan colour.
So if I give you my VIN you can tell which one it was? Or will it just say the two types that fit?
For an R3 it may show which was originally fitted, but then only give the choice of the ....9D as a replacement, regardless.
Post/PM your VIN and we'll see.

Hi Dave,
I am looking into replacing my windscreen in my S1 PZ. It has a chip and is covered in other nicks that’s the sun shows up I certain lights. I looked into getting it polished but was quoted £350.
Is the database that look up the windscreen available to check online? I will contact Mazda also but not sure how I will get it fitted then.
I have direct access to Mazda systems and can check for you, based on VIN.
However, if I was in your position I'd be checking with Clive at RacingBeatEurope.com (aka Mazda Rotary Parts) to see if he can still source heated screens direct from Pilkington, see viewtopic.php?p=650711#p650711
I have an earlier version of the heated screen fitted to mine (since 2010) and have fitted the wiring and switches for two members that have since had screens supplied through Clive. Having the ability to remove misting and even heavy icing, without having to rely on the heater makes a huge difference, even during summer downpours.
Delivery to Dublin could be a challenge but Clive ships stuff all over the world.
Most windscreen fitters are happy to fit customer supplied screens, whether supplied new from a dealer, or not.

If your screen were to “develope” a crack and you have glass insurance then it will probably only cost you c£80 for a new screen.

Just as a piece of un related info but spark plug ceramic is extremely hard and will crack and break almost any glass if thrown at it
Also if you have a chipped screen never push hard on the screen inside near the chip if you are cleaning it as that will cause it to turn into a crack.

I would second Dave's option regarding fitting a Heated Windscreen
I had one in my first RX-8 and it was brilliant in icy conditions

duly noted
I got on to Mazda and a new windscreen is €480. Then they said approx another €200 to fit it.
Now you know to always tick the box fir windscreen cover on your insurance policy!

I have been trying to get my insurance company to agree to allow me to source a Mazda windscreen. I am sharing the response they received from Allglass in case anyone is looking to do the same at some point.
“The windscreens that Allglass supply and fit are of the same specifications as the main dealer glass. The only difference is the MD glass is badged glass with the manufacturer logo.”
Not really a worthwhile fight unless you know the Mazda screen is “better” than the Allglass one. Mazda do not actually make the screens anyway.

Cheers for the reminder of that link Dave. I'll be looking to fit one of these now. Thanks to an Aygo that practically aimed for a patch of spilled aggregate.
Is the wiring the sort of thing that any auto-electrician could do? Or do people know of any electricians in the Club that offer services?
Any suggestions for a switch location, and ideas for a switch that would fit? I haven't spotted any blank switches on the dash. Unlike in most cars.
EDIT: I've seen elsewhere that the R3 windscreen has a different tinted area to accommodate the rain sensor. Dammit. I'll contact to ask them if they've made an R3 version... but it's unlikely.
Yes this would be a great addition. The issue is the extra expensive rather than the insurance company paying for it. I have had some more significant unexpected expenses with the car of late so trying to keep the expenditure down!
