NOT the end!

Post by Luke0611 »

Won't start when "warm". Sluggishly starts when cold or hot. Never did a compression test but probably too late for that now.
Is this the end of my 8?

You need to get a compression test, as compression could be the issue, but so could dying coils, fuel pump, spark plugs, ESS (Eccentric Shaft Sensor), IAT (Intake Air Temperature Sensor)

Even if it is compression then it's got to be worth a rebuild, being a 40th Anniversary.

This is actually... the start of your rebuild thread where you get to have all things you ever wanted done to your 8

There is a fullbridge motor for sale by big pete, its my previous engine, it did under 2500miles, and had no expense spent on it. Every nut, bolt and tiny hose was replaced as new. It also comes with the ECU for the engine as it had days of dyno time to develop the map and be the first 8 with a pop and bag map.

The car and engine is this:

worth a consideration if you dont want to pay for a rebuild

It's beautiful.
Unfortunately I can't really afford to keep the car, let alone think about a rebuild, as much as I would love to. I've put plenty of money and time into it, and I love it to bits (haha). It's my own fault though, I knew what I was getting in to when I bought it.

Once it sits for a little bit, it will eventually turn over after some more struggling. Once it's running, it drives as it always has done, idles normally. There's nothing wrong apart from the startup. Tell me I'm being overly pessimistic please.

There's a whole bunch of things is *could* be, and "compression" wouldn't be top on my list of suspects.

In that case compression is a factor....

If no-one local can do it Luke Murdoch most probably can. And then you also have his expertise for after the compression test.

Had the compression test done, unfortunately averaging 4.5 and 4.6 bar for rotors 1 and 2 respectively. Rebuild is out of the question, as much as I'd love to have it as a track car.
Looks like it is the end after all

Those numbers don’t look bad. Did Scott check for any other possible cause of the bad starting?

They are in psi so 98.6 would be a compression of 6.9 as per the bottom of printout
They are very low.... At max 4.9
