Competition for the most overpriced RX8 part?

Post by New Duke »

I thought it might be amusing/upsetting to compare what folks think are the most overpriced new RX8 parts from Mazda. Not including any discounts you may have wrangled. Only new Mazda parts, not aftermarket ones, because the ludicrously priced Revi Air Scoop would easily win that competition.

I'll get things started, using ballpark prices because I don't have access to the parts database. So it's based on memory from recent phone calls with the local parts desk. Feel free to politely correct any prices if you have an update.

First off the Recaro seat inserts. Plastic molds. £35 pounds each (so £70 to do the front + rear) and the front seats have 8 of them in total. Ouch!
R3 seat insert.jpg
Secondly the elbow joints on the air cleaner. Tiny plastic molds. £10 each including VAT and the S1 needs 3 of these with the R3 requiring 2. A hefty price to pay in order to fit a stock air box and fit an intake that Warpc0il won't poke fun at. :tear: ;)

Over to you lot...

Set of full brake calliper retention bolts (think I got that right) came out to about £40 quid for the 8 bolts if memory serves right... £5~ for a little bolt each. (only did it because all the current ones are getting rounded off and next time I take them out I may not be able to get them back in... but I think its worth it for the security).

Not quite a part, but the amount that Mazda will charge for a Compression Test is ridiculous at ~£250. Literally 10x what a smaller specialist will charge!

You pay that premium to have the Mazda tech fit the spark plugs back in the wrong order. It's the unique experience they provide

There's a resonator bung being sold by a rotary specialist for £29.99. After a quick search on eBay I found one for £6.99

Even 6.99 sounds too much for that. 29.99 is outrageous. haha

I always remember Mazda telling me that the reason my next Service was going to be expensive was because it would require spark plugs at £220!!!!!

Maybe. Perhaps it was a user mod. It was a photo I grabbed from the US forum so I have no answers sadly. My shrouds look so nasty from having to glue them twice there's no way I was going to photo them.

If in need of 40th Anniversary badges its a lot cheaper to buy from a US Mazda dealer than the UK.

Any idea of the best way to stick the gel piece back on? Mine came off on spoiler. Is there a type of glue that’s recommended?
