plugs and carbon

Post by AndyBrad »

Ok so i swapped the plugs oil and filters at the weekend (4k on the oil 10k on the plugs and air filter)

I tried out one of those crappy android cameras but noticed that theres loads of carbon. Now i appreciate this isnt surprising seeing as i have a 4 mile round trip commute.

Apart from cataclean and walking any suggestions

Scenic route to work allowing you to get to temperature and get in a beep or two 😁

You don't want to be beeping on a 2 mile journey the oil will take about 6 miles to get up to temp, I'd seriously get a bike

I mean... I don't want to be the guy who says "walk" or "use a bike" but I will be the guy that says:

If your commute is only 2 miles each way then you have 2 choices - deal with carbon build up, or change you car/commute/driving.

Cataclean isn't gonna work as you have to leave the car running for 15 minutes for it to do its job. Just use this as an excuse to drive 10 miles each way, thrash the tits off it and enjoy it. Or sell it and buy a little petrol run about, because a commute like that will knacker a diesel too.

I would recommend fitting the Mouse Mat mode, at least once the heatwave is over
https://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/v ... =mouse+mat
this will get the engine up to normal running temperature sooner, reducing the amount of time that it's running over-rich fuelling.

I fear this will do precious little over such a short distance. I admit it will be better than nothing, but if the commute is only 2 miles then it's not the engine temp that'll be causing the issue, it's a lack of red-line-action that'll be the biggest cause.
