Please Recommend: Stainless Cat Back Exhaust System

Post by Mad Professor »

Good day all.

First off moderators please feel free to move this post to where ever would be best suited.

I am looking for Help and Recommendations for a new Stainless Cat Back Exhaust System for my 2005 RX8 231.
I am ideally looking to order within the next week, and but will need it delivered by the latest of the 24th of this month.
I know that everyone's preference is different, So I am open to any and all suggestions.

My requirements.
  • Low noise at idle and low rpm / throttle , (Due to working unsocial hours, and not wishing to upset the neighbors).
  • Must be direct replacement / fitment, (I don't have the available free time to be fighting with parts or modifying).
  • All parts to be stainless steel.
  • Greater than stock ID on pipework.
  • No collapsed / crushed sections of pipework.
  • Budget of around £800 inc delivery.
  • Prefer Tig welded over Mig welded.
  • Must be delivered by the latest of the 24th August.
I am also open to the possibility of an active exhaust system, so that I can adjust with my mood.

Thanks in advance.

RRP do a good active exhaust system. I run one myself with a stock cat.

From a noise point of view I was fine at Donington, Coombe and Blyton.

I've got a thread on this somewhere.

Ninja_Freak:
I have been in talks with Carl at RRP, they currently do not have anything in stock, or anything they can deliver within my required time frame.
Carl did kindly offer to sell me the active exhaust system from his car, but but once again could not guarantee it would be delivered by 24th. :(
I have so far not been able to locate any other active systems within the UK, Only the US and Japan but again will not be here in time.

Early on this week I came across a forum post somewhere listing different exhaust system and the noise levels, I forgot to bookmark it, and for the life of me I can not find it again. #-o

There was a lot of talk about noise levels for exhausts in this thread.

For that budget I'd look at either the Cobra or the Pettit.

I have run both and, as long as you are still running a cat or gutted OEM cat section, they are both fine for early starts and drives as long as you don't boot it. But when you open up the throttle they really start to sing.

Don't go for the Pettit resonated decat if you want it to be fairly sociable at early hours. It sounds nice, but is loud.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9Zwh ... RLdnNMTUhZ This is a Racing Beat stainless manifold, gutted OEM cat and Cobra catback at ~50% throttle with a bit of pop and bang spicy-ness thrown in for the lulz. only about ~50% throttle, and no higher than 7k.
