Driver side seat belt Tensioner
Hi guys, Im a little unsure on this on what to replace.
My car was with Mazda for the recalls so I asked them why I had this light on the dash, (pic of something similar below).
They told me it was for the drivers side seat belt tensioner so my question is what do I replace.
The seat belt itself?? as it does not wind up that well anyways, or the little box under the stereo??
The light flashes sometimes but mostly stays on all the time.

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
Follow the Troubleshooting Guide and it should tell you exactly where the problem is. Could be as simple as a plug disturbed while cleaning or being kicked by a passenger.

Check the part numbers on the labels.
One says "LH" the other "RH"

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
But that's not the tensioner, and there is no sensor in the belt (so nothing to throw a code). The tensioner is the bit the belt buckles into (attached to the seat). As Dave says, it would be worth checking the electrical plugs under the seat.

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
Unplug the yellow connector under your seat and then plug it back in, also make sure the white plug is fully home. This normally happens if someone has move the seat all the way back.

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
OK guys only looked at this now. Mazda said they checked the connections under the seat so I just done it again. So pics below to see if wire looking OK but if its nothing to do with the seat belt what about the buckle it clicks into ??

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
The dash light should flash a code, which the Diagnostics will tell you exactly which connection/component has the problem.
The system is very sensitive to resistance, so the connection might need to be disconnected, cleaned and reconnected, sometimes more than once, before it is happy.

Re: Driver side seat belt Tensioner
My code reader is not picking up a code from it.The light flashes when ignition is turned on then goes of for a few seconds and then stays on solid. I have cleaned and refitted yellow and white wires several times now and no joy.
It was Mazda that told me that it was the seat belt tensioner. They said they tried the wires under the seat but it would need more tests as they did not know what the problem was. Anyway I was just talking to a guy that has garage diagnostic tool so we will see what it might say tomorrow.
