Making me question whether I should even look any further than the Contis I already have. They have been fantastic tyres and I’m not surprised to see them do so well.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for 225/45R 18 size - the big boy premium tyres are approx £135, Vredestein £90 and Accelera £45.
When I bought my 911 it had new rear Accelera PH1`s I didn`t even wait for them to demonstrate how good/bad they were I replaced them with Bridgestone REO50 N3.
You accept that tyres are the only safety related item between you and the road or they are round black things.

For mixed road and track, I'd say they're great for what you're after.
If you are a full on track driver then you'd be better suited looking at Toyo R888s, Advan AD08s and so forth, but for road use I'd say goodyear, conti, michelin or the Vortis would be a good shout

It's hard to imagine just how badly a set of cheapo ditchfinders ruin the handling of an 8, even in the dry, and can make it lethal in the wet.
Years ago I went along with a prospective owner to look at a PZ that he was thinking of buying.
The car checked out, all apart from the random selection of Durlop, Brigdestone, Pirrelli, Comptinental* tyres.
I pointed this out and the seller said "The car came with those and I don't drive it in the rain, so not a problem"
Long story short, the sale went ahead and the new owner was fairly happy.
He found the handling very different to his previous "hot hatch" experience but assumed that this was to be expected.
He came around a few weeks later to check the brakes as they were "pulling to one side", and asked me to take the car for a test drive.
The thing handled like a shopping trolley, trying to go in all directions except a straight line, and refused to hold a gentle radius on curving slip road without the DSC flashing. The road was cold and damp but no standing water.
We stopped in a layby and I did a visual check of wheel alignment and tyre pressures - nothing obvious enough to explain the handling.
We drove back, carefully, and removed his nice Oz alloys and threw on my old set of OEM wheels with part-worn Michelins.
The whole handling of the car was transformed; the car was stable in a straight line, perfectly predictable in the corners, the braking was balanced with no pull, while DSC and ABS were totally untriggered, where they'd previously been overworked.
He'd spent all is budget on buying the car, so I lent him my wheels for a couple of months until he could afford a set of Vreddies.
He rang me when he got home and said that now he understood all the hype about the RX8 handling, which hadn't made any sense when he first bought the car.

I used to keep a set of budget tyres (Kenda I think) for GT86 style fun, until one day at roughly walking pace the car refused to turn on a damp roundabout and scrubbed very slowly straight towards the opposite exit. It's the slowest panic I've ever had, and they were immediately removed.
Not so long ago I stacked them outside with various part-worn tyres ready for collection. The other tyres were sets of Conti, Bridgestone etc. most with a serviceable amount of tread left (I like to change tyres quite early) and would likely do someone else well for a few thousand miles. Some pilferer shunned the premium rubber and took the crappy Kendas! I hope they enjoy their 8 year old death traps

Interestingly Vredestein although manufactured in the Netherlands they are owned by Apollo tyres an Indian company who are the 7th biggest tyre manufacturer, Accelera tyres are Indonesian manufactured supposedly to European standards?

Also looks like next time I get a new set of tyres Ill be trying Vredestein out if I stick to mid range.

I couldn’t believe my eyes though when I looked at the rear tyre only to see it was a Lansail! There is no way it would have had that on from new so someone must have had it fitted due to a wear or a puncture.
Can’t believe the corners some people cut or could just be ignorance I suppose.

The bigger thing that gets me is that it isn't a cheap car. Let's be honest, within reason, oil is oil is oil for most piston engine'd cars - diesels especially so these days - but tyres really aren't and nobody seems to understand that...
You can tell it isn't a company car or anything like that either as company cars always get shod in named brand rubber...

Not at all. But it did handle like absolute crap. Davanti's on the front and landsails on the back. Didn't really care to be honest. I bought a Mini with 9000 miles on it. Every tyre was a cheapy, and I think they were all different. We are not sure, but we think the car was a rental car for the first part of its life. So, a) the tyres may have been ragged and needed changing, or b) rental companies remove the high-value tyres from their cars, sell them, and replace them with whatever cr#p is down at the local second hand tyre dealers.
I'm not usually a cynic but there's a lot of value attached to the wheels of a new car...
For comparison, my Skoda still has two of its original tyres, and it's just passed 50k miles (and that includes two AGM track days...)

Ahah. Maybe when they are new Dave. But not when they're 15 years old with worn suspension parts that no matter how many times you change still fail within months. (Stupid living down a bumpy track made me change my lower suspension ball joint twice in a year). My point was mostly the fact that I wasn't going to be spending more money than the cars value in tyres just to have it handle better when it just had to get me the 14 miles to town every day.

I couldn’t believe my eyes though when I looked at the rear tyre only to see it was a Lansail! There is no way it would have had that on from new so someone must have had it fitted due to a wear or a puncture.
Can’t believe the corners some people cut or could just be ignorance I suppose.
You can tell it isn't a company car or anything like that either as company cars always get shod in named brand rubber...
most company vehicles are leased these days, and most lease company's spec budget.
ive had linglongs AND landsails on at the same time before.

My previous C300h was a ARVAL company lease car and they insisted on original OEM tyres so ended up with Michelin PS4.
ATS charged them £600 for two!
