Power seat switches
As my car is running OK for the time being I'm starting to look at some of the more cosmetic issues.
My power seat switches have come off leaving just the poles. I have some replacements but I can't really figure out how to put them back on. I think I can glue the front to back but the upright needs to be able to rotate around the pole so glueing it is out...
Has anyone else fixed these themselves?

Re: Power seat switches
Just fixed mine today with a new set from Essex Rotary.
Do not glue anything! They clip on.
The front switch clips on the the outer posts but has to slide across them when moving the seat back/forward. Then of course the outer posts control the up/down.
The previous owner of my car made the mistake of trying to glue mine and I’ve spent some time today shaving off all the glue remnants; it now works perfectly.

Re: Power seat switches
My posts look like they aren't complete. Either that or the switches aren't. I can't actually remember where the switches came from. I'll have to take a closer look, but there doesn't appear to be anything to clip on to.
If anyone has any pics of what the poles are supposed to look like that would be super handy.....

Re: Power seat switches
Here’s a google image of the switch and a pic of my posts but a little blurred since I’ve zoomed into a picture I had to hand.
The posts are literally that - just straight posts. Where I have drawn green lines, there are small ridges/barbs that clip into the switch housing. So as I said before, the switches clip onto the posts but have to be clean enough to slide front to back.

Re: Power seat switches
Those stems look to be the correct length. Also the toggles only fit onto the stems one way.

Re: Power seat switches
Thanks Mark, that's really useful. My posts dont seem to have the barb. It looks like there might be a piece of plastic over the ends to build them up a bit to fit in the switch and hold them there. Might need to get a bit creative with a DIY solution.MarkG M3CP wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 10:25 pmWhere I have drawn green lines, there are small ridges/barbs that clip into the switch housing.

If you have access to a 3d printer then you can make your own replacements

Re: Power seat switches
Maybe someone already tried a diy solution with something like InstaMorph and the remains are still stuck to the stems

Re: Power seat switches
Ive put my seat switches back on twice and they still just fall off no matter if they click onto what I presume is where they should be or not. Good thing no-one else drives the car really.

Re: Power seat switches
It does seem to be a friction fit so if the posts or switch is worn it’s never going to stay on.

Re: Power seat switches
My replacement switch covers used to fall off. Have you tried placing a piece of double sided tape ( the gummy stuff ) over the switches then push the covers over.
I did that and mine don't fall off anymore

Re: Power seat switches
After looking at Mark's photo again I had another look at mine, and my posts seemed way shorter. After manhandling the plastic surround on the seat I noticed I could lift it onto the seat frame.
After doing this, much more of the posts became visible as did the little "ridge" for the switches to clip onto. So, sorted! Seat switches back in place.
I never knew the seat had a tippy "up / down" function until tonight either... Much better support for my voluptuous behind!
Thanks again! I'm glad I asked.

Power seat switches
Aha - same problem I had!Azimuth wrote:After looking at Mark's photo again I had another look at mine, and my posts seemed way shorter. After manhandling the plastic surround on the seat I noticed I could lift it onto the seat frame.

In the end I removed the trim, drilled a hole in the back piece and bolted it to the metal seat frame. It now holds the outer pice firmly and doesn’t foul the switches.
Glad you got sorted

Re: Power seat switches
I'm fairly sure I'll have to do something similar to keep it there. Did you drill through the metal or just the plastic?MarkG M3CP wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 7:37 pmIn the end I removed the trim, drilled a hole in the back piece and bolted it to the metal seat frame.

Re: Power seat switches
I had just finished the driver seat lowering modification so had a couple of M8 bolts spare (overkill I know).Azimuth wrote:I'm fairly sure I'll have to do something similar to keep it there. A couple of the lugs has broken of the backing piece so I drilled the plastic and bolted through the existing hole in the metal. Top centre, you can’t miss it when you take it off. Easy as can be.
