tick over trouble.
hi there, i have started having tickover trouble when fully warmed up. the problem becomes apparent when pulling up at junctions or in a queue.
the tickover drops right down to,at a guess 500 rpm, sometimes it recovers and other times it stalls, what makes it a real pita is that ,with the rotary being so quiet, sometimes i don't notice until it is time to take off again.
so, my question is,does anyone know of any probable causes that may help me to track down the problem, apart from this niggle ,the car is running perfectly,on 585 coils ,premium fuel and new plugs. thanks, rob.

Re: tick over trouble.
plug a elm327 code reader in and install forscan on a laptop, then go to live data and check the clutch and brake switches are working properly.

Re: tick over trouble.
What intake are you running? Have you pulled the plugs / chucked in ignition checker on to make sure the coils are doing their thing?

Re: tick over trouble.
Is your air con clutch disengaging when it should? You can check this by just taking off the air con belt and seeing if the problem disappears.

Re: tick over trouble.
i have taken off air con belt and will take it for a good spin tomorrow, although i don,t have the tools to check the ignition, would swapping trailing for leading coils do any harm? thanks rob.
would i be right in assuming that leading coils have to work harder than trailing during normal use?

Re: tick over trouble.
All four coils are the same (so you can swap them). It might just confuse you though. Better to use spark testers. The coils all work equally hard.
(The trailing coils only burn a small amount of the mixture, but it still needs the same size spark).

Re: tick over trouble.
I had the same problem on and off, I noticed it more when tank was full. I decided to get an upgraded fuel pump and that cured it. My car had done 105000 miles and the original pump just was dying. Well worth it. Just another idea for you to look at.

Re: tick over trouble.
hi there, i took the car to the shropshire meet last night after changing the offending plug, the car ran perfectly, which ruled out coil trouble.
i will however have the ignition system apart today, simply to give it all a good clean and use my new spark tester, thanks for your comments, rob.
