spark plugs + coil question
Does anyone know where to get a cheap set of plugs fr the R3?
Also ive noticed that the D959's from RR have got what looks like white marks on the coils where they are touching the metal bracket. is this something to be concerned with? cars running fine.

Re: spark plugs + coil question
MRP had a deal on plugs a few months back - not sure what they're at now though. I have no constructive input to the 959 question.

Re: spark plugs + coil question
'cheap' isn't overly desirable as there are a great many fake NGK plugs about - as such I'd avoid eBay personally.
Best place, as mentioned above, is somewhere like Rotary Revs or MRP or RRP for reputable parts at a good value. I use the work value rather than price, as a low price isn't always the best with these things... R3 uses the same plugs as the S1 though
Coil wise, I wouldn't be too concerned, but of course they come with a lifetime warranty to take a pic and ping it over to the guys at Revs.

What about Jp4mance that's were I got mine from see link below they offer a small discount outside of eBay. Not ever seller on eBay is bad... Just need to make sure they are trusted first.

according to my personal experience, copper plugs especially (no resistor version) + wire leads (no resistor) = winDr. FrankenRex wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:31 am'cheap' isn't overly desirable as there are a great many fake NGK plugs about - as such I'd avoid eBay personally.

downside you have to replace plugs more often.
some minor noise on radio which can be eliminate with capacitors
forget about those mention places if you don't want to pay +40% more. tax and.... I don't know why the good coil should be RED !!????
best coil if you use standalone ecu to optimize setting AEM otherwise with factory setting ecu ACDelco

@dentist, can you let us know where we can save 40% on plugs compared to the above mentioned suppliers as no doubt everyone would be keen to enjoy such a saving?

Re: spark plugs + coil question
So I've had a few 7s in my time. We used to change the coils to corvette coils back in the day. What you would call the ACdelco blah deblah
Back then they were sourced from reputable sources from the states and we were experienced or just game to try them as $400 per coil was horrendous.
The risk of engine damage was acceptable... Kind of... But our risk non the less.
The plugs were always quite pricey but they came from reputable sources.
I won't recommend to anyone these days what we did back then for the main reason being, there are far too many clones that could cause engine trouble. And the general consensus is to turn to yep... Reputable sources again with support to turn to
£70-£120 for plugs, £400 for coils Vs 2.8k for a rebuild
Maybe someone will come up or has come up with a good coil at a very cheap price...
But until the proof is there that it won't [edited] our blocks then why take the risk for a measly amount of cash. In comparison to a rebuild
Not worth it IMO
Edit: not directed at the OP...
Sorry to sound harsh but if you can't afford the maintenance then why own one

Re: spark plugs + coil question
Mr Dentist, most of us use trusted traders to buy parts and gain advice simply because we are not experts ourselves. the list of them has probably been whittled down over the years to eliminate any rogues, many of whom have have caught out many members over the years.google vat is 20% of story alone
the resulting list is the culmination of a lot of trial and error ,and we have ended up with a pool of trusted suppliers, but even that is under constant scrutiny by members. i have read in one of your previous posts that your services are not cheap, however, would you be kind enough to share your findings with us as any new information is always welcomed, hey, you could even start a group buy, many thanks, rob.

Re: spark plugs + coil question
If you wish to go and buy cheap spark plugs for your RX8, then please feel free. None of us 'get a percentage' from any of the traders, we just know how badly it goes if you buy shonky parts. The RX8 is quite sensitive when it comes to ignition components, as you may have heard.Dentist wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:46 pmaccording to my personal experience, copper plugs especially (no resistor version) + wire leads (no resistor) = winDr. FrankenRex wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:31 am'cheap' isn't overly desirable as there are a great many fake NGK plugs about - as such I'd avoid eBay personally.

Also, not all ACDelco coils are equal, in the same way all Mazda coils aren't and all NGK plugs aren't equal. All designed for a purpose, the RX8's being very specific.

Re: spark plugs + coil question
This "I know more about coils than the people who develop them" is getting boring. If you knew RRP's background you would trust them implicitly with their mk2 coils. The fact you recommend Aem but not the "red" coils shows a slight lack in knowledge.

Re: spark plugs + coil question
Omg put it in this way rrp rr bhr aem oem we have big choice of good coils to pic and I think we are lucky to have so many avaliable to us.
Every one have their favorite no need of putting people off from other coils. I like Clive and he sold me a set of oem coils. I bought second spare set bhr from chris just in case I need to change coils.
Chris use rrp coils Ed use rrp. They are the best performance for the money. When I bought my coils in December I didn't know about rrp ones. So I spend over 300 to late to buy another set.
