You should find, though, that those old ignition systems only put out about 20kV though, which is about half of modern engines. Fine for low-strung applications with little volumetric efficiency.
I do believe RRP's coils provide 60kV, for comparison.

Even tiny 3-cyl 1.0L city cars these days can have high output coils for each plug to only fire 2,500 times at 5,000 rpm.

And have you seen the size of a Mini coil. Try packing four of those in your engine bay.....

I kinda guessed that size and power would have changed over the last 60 years, it's just that 9000 doesn't sound that high these days.

Anyway, the OP seems a bit put off by some of the replies so this thread is probably dead.

And now we'll never know the secrets we were promised.

I dunno though geoff. Firing 9000 times (or 10000 in my engine bay, just like Peter) per coil, for every minute of combustion, still feels impressive to me. Especially when we expect these parts to last tens of thousands of miles.

I however, struggle to fire more than twice a day... badum-tish :getmecoat:

I am not in mood to write but to point two things for future reference, any time the rotor chamber pass sparks = fire , every crank shaft turn = 3 rotor
so it is 1/3 duty cycle, interesting ? open book for Wankel and chase NSU R&D back+ Benz c111 test and....

On V8 with single coil, dwell angle = 360/8 *2/3 ( hummmm you thing its smaller than RX8 ? and one spark is for over 700cc in big block)
Wast sparks, hummm the cycle is double, cause there is one ignition wasted hence name in exhaust cycle.....

more hummmmm turbin ignitor few 1000 over period, haaaha

I am personally finding that the language barrier is making things difficult to follow; when there are small linguistic errors that make things unclear, they can change the meaning of a sentence quite easily, depending on how one fills in the blanks.

But I think that you have misunderstood the "1/3 duty cycle" part of it.
For every 360 degrees of the crank shaft, the rotor only turns 120 degrees - so (per rotor, ignoring trailing coil / simplifying to single coil per rotor) there is only 1x spark per 360 crank shaft degrees.

This is likely making people doubt your expertise in this area if you have fundamentally misunderstood a simple design characteristic of a wankel engine.

Trust me when I say that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to these engines.

It's easy, a normal piston engine is going to fire it's coil at half the crank rpms, the rotary fires every rpm. So 9000rpm 4-stroke piston = 4500 sparks/min/coil - for a rotary that's 9000 sparks/min/coil.

Basically more like a 2-stroke ignition system (in fact the easiest way to fit an aftermarket ECU is to just configure it as a 2 stroke for the ignition side)
