I have noticed, while in second gear especially, the rate of increase for the RPM takes a while in order for it to really pull (from around 6k onwards).
This can cause a bit of an issue when I want to overtake or accelerate at a round about. 1st gear isn't so bad, the RPM needles moves quickly and it is fairly easy to get into the power band.
Second is a lot slower and third just takes a decade. Will a lightened flywheel help? My engine was compression tested last year with healthy results and does not have any hot start issues. Recently upgraded to D585 coils and new plugs/leads.
RX-8 takes a long time to get up the power band between 6-9k RPM?

Re: RX-8 takes a long time to get up the power band between 6-9k RPM?
That doesn't sound at all right. I appreciate everything is relative, but revs should pick up rapidly in 2nd in particular, 3rd less so, but still shouldn't be like you describe it ("takes a decade"). I think there is a fault that needs investigating, before you consider changes.

Agreed
sound like it may be down on power
do you have an OBD scan tool that you can read off what the MAF meter is reading ? as it should be up in the 220 g /sec region
if its not pulling this level of air then something is up

Who did the upgrade? are you sure that a) all the leads are fully on - new ones are very tight, b) they are attached in the correct order?

I'm not sure whether the CAT is on its way out, but I plan on de-catting it soon.

Luke MRS did the upgrade and scanned so should been good, unless something came loose since. But it has always sort of been like this before and after the upgrade

Re: RX-8 takes a long time to get up the power band between 6-9k RPM?
I had a thing about a year or two ago where it was very slow from around 4K - 6K, then would whiz up like normal to the redline. Turned out to be my SSV sticking I think and it needed cleaning ? Not 100% sure.
Got the paperwork at home so will try to look at it over the weekend what it was.

Thanks for the info, if you could let me know what it was. My car does rev slower up to around 6k and then from around 6.5k goes faster
