Partial electrics failure issue, HELP!

Post by ChrisHolmes »

Having removed many accessory wires for DVD players, cameras, switches etc; whilst the engine was out now I have come to refit the battery I have a few things that do not work;

Nothing gets power when the ignition switch is moved to the ACC position.
No warning bleep that the lights are on
No OE sat nav hood opening
No media player power ( HVAC controls are fine)
No interior lights
All the exterior lights work
All dash instrument functions seem to be working
Central locking also not working
The ACC 20amp fuse had blown but replacing that made no difference.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

If it's blowing fuses, something must be shorting.

I'd go back over where you've been pulling things out and see if there are any faults.

The fuse has not blown since it was replaced. No OE wiring has been removed only accessory connection wiring.

Might have something to do with cutting the starter button wiring out as well as some of the wiring under the centre console some of the oem wiring was cut when fitting some mods under the dash would help more but it looks as if you cut something out and not refitted connected the original wiring you shorted or disconnected an earth or live feed I don’t think it’s just a simple fuse.....

Swap the accessory relay with the horn relay and try again. May have fried the accessory relay when accessory 30a fuse blew. If blows fuse again then a short somewhere. Then it will be a case of isolating the circuits to find the fault.

Whilst I was careful to only remove what I judged as accessory (none OE) wiring then of course that is always a possibility.

Thanks Jon, fortunately Tony supplied me with a box of relays etc: so I have plenty to go at!

13:06 Tuesday. Swapped the relays and no change ACC position still dead. I guess their is no power feed somehow so maybe I have accidentally broken a connection somewhere, but how to find it is the challenge.

When the engine was out and the ECU disconnected O had connected the battery a couple of times to check the operation of the new gauges, the DRLs and the front fog lights which now all work.

Could this have caused the alarm to disable circuits? If so how do I reset it?
