Specialist in Scotland - located in FIFE
Trying to help someone out that just bought a RX-8. They bought one with a clogged cat after seeing photos of the cat brick all melted, and they need to pass a MOT. Who does the club recommend in Scotland to assist with a replacement cat and/or a friendly MOT?

I'd get in touch with Ben (minisaki) - probably easiest through the Scottish group on Facebook. He has been busy swapping stuff from his old RX-8 to his new one, but if he has time he would be able to put a new cat on. He is in Paisley.

Is there an easier way to contact him? Or do you at least have the link to the Scottish group on Facebook that I can pass along?

Re: Specialist in Scotland - located in FIFE
Passing the MOT emissions test is much easier in NI than in the rest of the UK.
Our MOT are performed by DVA Vehicle Test Centres, not garages.
These Centres have their own interpretation of the rules, one of which is that they only perform the emission test at idle, not the "fast idle" required everywhere else. It's this fast idle test that causes a fail for some 200 Cell cats.
The MOT regulations for the rest of the UK also require that cats are either original OEM fit or Type-approved replacements. The Toyosport cat isn't type-approved so that should be an instant fail.
Just to confuse things further, the NCT in The Republic of Ireland excludes rotary engines from any emissions test, which is why most of the guys down south run decats
