Jump pack not working :(

Post by rameshr »

So battery is dead due to long period of not starting the car

No lights not even the imoblizer.

Have new sealey 750a pack fully charged

Does not do a Scooby. Is it possible that my battery is dead?

That jump pack has 250cca where the varta e23 has 630a, so unsure how well it would work even if your battery wasn't dead, with no lights showing I would put a multi meter on to check battery's power, if it's circa 10-12 put it on charge any less then bin it, and get a new one

Is this connected direct to battery? If yes connect earth to block (lifting eye would do )

Could be your cars battery has an internal failure, like a short, you could (if you were really careful)disconnect the earth lead from the battery and connect jump pack to the positive terminal and the earth lead, then turn your ignition on to see if the dash lights up, this would take the battery out of the equation, but I wouldn't recommend trying to start the car like this (you could I'm just not recommending it)

Battery voltage was around 2.6. Will send the jump pack back. Any recommendations for a decent booster?

Most jump packs won't cope if connected across a totally flat (or shorted) battery, unless it's either mains powered or a massive commercial jobbie.

My little hand-held jump pack managed to start our Octavia, after the central locking module failed and flattened the battery, but only by starting the car with the battery disconnected. Once the engine was running, reconnected the battery, disconnected the pack and took the car for a 20 minutes run.

If there's enough life in the car battery to rattle the starter solenoid, then the jump pack works with the battery still in circuit.

We could only get the rattle once, after that nothing.
Will get a replacement booster and new battery.

My understanding is if you connect earth to block it sends power to starter not battery!

makes no differ3mce, it doesnt matter where you connect into a circuit. the battery will still suck all the amps if it has a internal short, (or is just really flat)

You should connect the negative to the block rather than directly to the flat battery because the battery will give off hydrogen when fast-charged and you don't want an explosion if there's a spark when you disconnect the cable.
