If this is the series i'm thinking of then the regulations need re-thinking before it's going to take-off.
Requirements including oem cat and suspension are not viable for a series for cars that have been out-of-production for 10 years and a new oem cat costs more than the car.

I concur with the above. Remove the regulations on the cat and it should be OK. You can get OEM-equivalent suspension units new still and they aren't crazy expensive.
After-all, we all know that removing the cat hardly releases a shed-load of power, so it's not about to wreck the competitive nature of the series or the cars.

I wouldn't worry too much about the CAT being required in this one

Re: 2019 RX8 Cup Round 1 Highlights Winton Motor Raceway
Unfortunately, any sanctioned UK motorsport event is going to require the RX-8 to have a cat. It's MSA rules. It doesn't have to be OE Mazda though. But if it isn't then how do you police it?
A bigger issue for me is how to stop people porting their cars. And even if you think your car is stock, if you bought it second hand then you can't be sure it's still standard.
The Aussies do seem to have a set of rules that people stick to. I'd love to know how they do it.

Cat has to be road legal that's it for MSA or MUK as there now known.

If I'm being brutally honest here, you'd gain more advantage from having a stock rebuilt engine over an older not-rebuilt one than rebuilt ported vs rebuilt stock...
