cant you just pour a bottle of nail varnish in your spark plug holes?
I'm sure I heard Nigel talking about something similar recently,he'll be along shortly to confirm :giggle:

tbh this is of interest to me as most of my journeys are less than 3 miles so its quite sooty in there. Im still fancying that watercleaning thing you see on facebook as i recon it cant do much harm in comparison.

As soon as I do it I'll let you know Andy, I've heard nothing but good things so whilst I'm not expecting a big difference I'm hoping to see some difference

On a serious note, Clive from MRP did give me a free bottle of Cataclean for my Red R3 when I first bought the car to clean the engine out via the fuel tank =D>

So chucked it in this morning and went for a short blast, can't say I've noticed any difference but it can't do any harm so what the hell :D

Tbh the very first time I premixed I noticed the difference Instantly but with cataclean I didn't notice Jack but at least its good to know it may be cleaning carbon so for 20 yoyos it's worth it I guess

Coincedentally popped a bottle in mine today and took it for a blast. I've done a fair few small journeys recently (Last few weeks of work and Christmas requirements...) so been misbehaving a tad on how I'm supposed to be treating the car.

Car fuel light had basically just come on, so went and topped up with a tenners worth to get me up to about 15-20l in the tank, chucking the cataclean in first. Then went and brapped it. Hard. Until the tank was practically empty and I then filled it with Tesco 99 + premix as I thought it deserved a treat. 55L@132p/l did make me suck my teeth mind...

I must say the car was legitimately feeling better about ten minutes into the braps. It's all hearsay and conjecture of course, but I feel like I've done something good for it after being laid up for over a week.

Popped in a bottle a few days ago after reading this thread. Perceived benefits is that it sounds and feels smoother (probably all tosh)

I'm going to use cataclean should I fill up the tank before without adding oil?

There are instructions on the packaging. However, it says to put it in with a 1/4 of a tank and empty that before refilling.

Okay, bad phrasing... Do I need to purge my tank of the 2t oil tank before a cataclean treatment?

Think I would follow the same method as Honktonk

"Car fuel light had basically just come on, so went and topped up with a tenners worth to get me up to about 15-20l in the tank, chucking the cataclean in first. Then went and brapped it. Hard. Until the tank was practically empty and I then filled it with Tesco 99 + premix "

Given that you'll be driving hard with the Cataclean, the usual premix should help and certainly won't do any harm.

There is some evidence the (good quality) 2T premix also helps to remove carbon deposits.

Just my 2p having used Cataclean a few times, I believe that it does help to reduce emissions (going from an MOT fail, to a pass within a day), and if it's got the power the clean-up the CAT, it must be strong enough to remove some carbon on its way through. I think this in combination with a bit of hard driving can only be doing good for the engine.

Also I agree with warpc0il above regarding 2T, I did my last Cataclean with 2T in the tank and had no ill effects, plus it wouldn't hurt to have the extra lubrication.

Re: How to use cataclean?

The amount of 2T you're using in average tank as premix (150-175mls in 60L, so about 50-60mls in the last 20L or so) means the concentration is so low it's unlikely to have an effect on the Cataclean at a chemical level. And Cataclean is designed to burn alongside fuel (just as the decent racing 2T you're using is) so there's no worry about dilution of your RON there, even with a bit of premix in the...mix.

I was hugely sceptical the first time I used it and I was converted immediately.

Yes. Neat cataclean is good for cleaning plugs. Just leave to soak overnight and wipe with a soft cloth. I did try an old toothbrush but it melted the plastic!

However, soaking in cold liquid is very different to combustion burn.

I believe they have although that obviously isn’t the same as running it through the engine.
I was one of the first to recommend this through the RX-8 and it definitely works but results will vary depending on condition of the engine in the first place and how perceptive people are. I put it through an RX-8 whether it has a cat or not.
