Hign beam fuse keeps blowing

Post by CookieMonster »

My high beam fuse keeps blowing and no idea why, have changed it twice over the weekend.

Hope that someone can help with this issue and thanks in advance.

Like most blown fuse issues, it's probably a positive wire on the lights shorting out to ground occasionally.

Get a multimeter out and probe the positive terminal on the plug and a good ground for continuity, and give the loom a wiggle.
And follow the wiring as far back as you can.

The wiring is the most likely but it can also be caused by a failing bulb or bulb-holder, especially if uprated bulbs have been fitted.

Cheap (e.g. ebay) fuses can sometimes be considerably outside the expected amperage tolerance.
Usually they are over-rated e.g. a "15A" fuse doesn't blow until hit with 20+ amps, but sometimes it only takes 12A [-X

I once wasted an afternoon chasing "a short circuit" that turned out to be a duff batch of fuses from Halfrauds #-o
