Oil Gunk Help

Hey all,

I have done many searches regarding the oil Gunk and all I seem to find is the ones regarding the dipstick.
I first noticed it via the dipstick then done lots of reading on here which made me feel for at ease.

But today I went to top up the oil and noticed a similar gunk foam all down the filler pipe. Is this the same as the dipstick situation or has my problem evolved and got worse?

'Mayonnaise' on the dipstick,and even inside the oil filler cap,is nothing particularly to worry about,especially at this time of year

As long as the coolant level isn't noticeably dropping,and the car is otherwise running well,no need to be concerned.

Thanks for the reply. Was worried as couldn't find much mentioning the filler neck.

It does imply that your oil is not getting up to temperature, which isn't good for engine life.

Probably caused by lots of cold starts and short journeys.

How old is the oil and do you know what was put in?

I have always had mayonaise in the filler nexk and on the underside of the oil cap on my 05 231.
That is despite 3 different engine configurations and two rebuilds. I put it down to the fact that it is not driven regulary (can be standing for two to three weeks without use). It is thrashed when it is driven though! (after allowing a suitable time to heat up)
Our R3 has never had any mayo whatsoever and that can stand unused for a couple of days. The oil breather arrangement is totally different on the R3 so maybe that has a bearing as well.

It would be worth checking the front grill directly below the number plate. The diamond-shaped holes should be blocked off by a blanking plate the Mazda added to stop the outside of the engine getting chilled. Some misinformed owners remove this plate "to assist cooling" and/or "to increase power" and it just causes increased thermal stress on the block and more mayo in the oil.

The airflow to the radiator is through the mouth opening below the grill, so you have to consider this if you lower the number plate.

Interestingly (or not) my JDM hasn't got this blanking sheet fitted. Not something I've removed. ......but I only have 1 oil cooler so that maybe evens it up
