Was going to say, that might be a slow long episode discovering that most things don't make much of a difference

I know engine performance wise there is little to gain, but suspension, brakes and tyres can massively affect handling and these are quite a common item to replace/upgrade
Led side lights, purple Led interior & puddle lights, pz grills, Ryan rotary performance coils, sump, engine mounts & sohn, HME engine rebuild at 50k, RRP exhaust & high flow cat, racing beat revi intake including scoop, quick shifter, alloy filler cap, pz alloys, suspension, mazdaspeed spoiler, japspeed toe arms & hardrace camber arms, RRP custom remap

Maybe some before and after power runs with specific after market goodies, like coils, exhaust, decat or high flow, and maybe some track days with handling mods, like brakes, suspension and tyres.
Just to give us some useful aftermarket comparisons on the same car, with a decent engine
Pfft. I done this. Trying to methodical and track my modifications with power runs and it’s turned out to be just a waste of time, money and energy.......!! an excuse to have lots of play time
I've corrected that for you ;)

might be worth trying something simple like some stiffer ARB's perhaps or a set of lowering springs?
also you have to have a catback the stock exhaust is far too quiet

I’d like to see him take the car round the same track as the 330d. It looked like quite a short, tight track so I reckon the time comparison might surprise a few people.

Curborough's really tight and twisty, it's a sprint track, hell it's tight in a kart too :D

Used to take the buggy there for shakedowns when we first put the Renny in it, an RX-8 is definately going to be quick there even vs the tuned up BMW.
Well, depending how shagged the rest of the RX-8 is....

It's still funny and Alex is so charismatic that he makes every show entertaining, he always has. He's a great presenter.

But the show has totally (and unfortunately) devolved exactly as I predicted. Guy spends pennies on an old RX8 with known issues > it needs a load of work > repairs that would cost waaaaaaay more than if buyer had just bought a decent example > poor reliability gets blamed on 'rotary car'

Except that any cheap second hand sports car is going to be fubar unless you're super lucky. Car Throttle know that, they're really knowledgeable about cars. Just say the truth, that it keeps failing because you spent £650(!!!) on a car you knew was buggered. But no, they just couldn't wait to jump on the internet rotary trollface. Alex really doubled down on it in this latest episode.

It's getting really irritating, which is a shame because I'm looking forward to seeing Dan's car on film again. But this nonsense is dampening my excitement now.

(Soz - I realise that isn't a question or request. But felt it a fair critique)

those are good points made by new duke, but we must remember that these videos are not made exclusively for rx8 oc . we as members have access to a wealth of knowledge, but not every rx8 owner is a member. i think the latest video is a pretty fair reflection of the frustrations faced by someone who has jumped into ownership without research. the huge difference here is that the frustration he felt is nothing compared to someone who would have to finance the repairs themselves.

As said by others, we bought these cars not for dyno runs and proving how much power they can make because we could of bought other cars that could always make more! But understand the CT entertainment reasons

I think there definitely needs to be an episode that shows off the handling of these cars at the limit and how they are as a drivers car, otherwise the series misses the point of why we own these cars. Fix the Lemon before you film FFS! Agree with comparing to other rival cars.

I agree New Duke, and this is a good place for people to put feedback. I'll certainly pass it on to Alex as I do agree that has potentially been missed along the way. This is a cheap car, and at a 2004 plate it's 15 years old this year, so things like failing solenoids, aged fuel pumps and similar should be expected.

Also, some other good ideas from people above. Looking forward to chatting to Alex about them tomorrow :thumleft:

This is true. The recent episode mentioned getting a compression test (whilst definitely recommended) you would not be paying £650 for the car if it did have good compression.

just to add to the above ,having watched all the videos i think he very accurately depicts a novice buyers journey. the excitement of first driving it ,the plans to make it better ,the not unexpected comp results, the rekindled excitement of a rebuild ,and the frustration and wasted time of the niggly bits going wrong. i would say that this is pretty familiar stuff to many on here.

And all being well, there will be the same thing we all feel when it IS finally fixed - the euphoria for driving it down a country road or on a track.

As said multiple times, that's why we do it

i agree Dan, thats why WE do it, but we are not all. this is one of the reasons why there are so many non runners on ebay, as for the comp test mentioned above being a waste of time on a cheap car, we would need to know what the cheap car was being bought for. not all cheap cars are engine failures.

He bought it with the intention of rebuilding. He was eyes wide open about it, although maybe that hadn't been conveyed properly

This guy Alex, I'm finding him less and less annoying.

Covering it pretty well considering its gotta appeal to a wide range of people.

Has to be said, the engine build vid, although not detail with all the nitty gritty, was actually decent watch.

I mean this in the sense of well filmed, good lighting, editing and on set chemistry above all.

There is many videos on rebuilding, but dam they are poor sound, lighting, picture quality etc. When you see something filmed better etc, it gives more of a home diy-er a boost in the sense you can clearly see whats going on and of how actual simple these can be dispike the negative rep.

Ps, Bloody Pettit exhaust!!!

Not a fan of the exhaust then?

I always recommend this rebuild video to any RX8 buyers as it teaches a lot and it’s very well presented..
