Driveway access

Post by RX8Red72 »

Not sure if this right section so feel free to move if required.

I have 2 problems with in and out access of my driveway. My driveway is a steep slope (slopes up from the house) and i park sideways on, across front of house. I will try my best to explain

Issue 1 - Getting out - So, the car is parked parallel with the front of the house and to get out of the driveway i need to swing the front hard round to the left to access the drop kerb. (The drop kerb width is much narrower than what is normal these days) The issue I have is as i swing round (hard left) and as i approach the summit of the driveway there is a brick post on the right side. At the sloped angle upwards I am in it is very difficult to judge how close I am to the brick post. I need to stay as wide as i can (near to the brick post) otherwise i miss the drop kerb, and i cant get out.

My question is - Is there anything I can attach to, or next to the the brick post that will allow me to get as near as I can without impacting?? (front parking sensors apart)

Issue 2 - Getting In - (and In addition to the above problem but in reverse), I live in a dark and narrow road and always reverse in (left hand down). I need to stay as near to the parked car on the road on my near side (my works van normally) to allow room to swing in without impacting the wall opposite. Getting in is fine during day, however at night it is very difficult to see the edge of the parked vehicle when relying on reverse lights of the RX8 for my only illumination.

My question is - Is there anyway of enhancing/improving the reverse lights on my RX8?? or as its my works van normally, is there anything that I can attach to the front bumper corner of my works van that will help highlight it in this situation?

Hopefully this makes a little sense

Nb : Long term plan is to widen drop kerb.

The brick post you mention,is it a gatepost? If not,or if you don't have gates, and the post is on your property, why not just get rid of it :?:

Fair enough, but how about just reversing down your driveway instead of parking parallel :?: that way you won't have to swing left..

you could try replacing the 21W reversing light bulbs with some high power LEDs

like this
https://www.ringautomotive.com/en/product/RW382DLED

560 lumens compared to the average output of 300 lumens for a 21E 12 incandescent
halfords should flog them

Looks like Halfords don't do an LED version of the 582 bulb we need

however you can buy a variety from here

No problem with replacing reversing lights.

If they don't work when you replace, try removing, rotating 180* and refitting, as the LED's are polarity sensitive.
Maths says there's a 50:50 chance that it will be wrong first time.
Sods Law says more like 90:10 ;)

That's turn the bulb in the holder, before anyone tries silly dance moves :D

I use these: https://www.horizonleds.co.uk/cree-leds ... -3156-cree

I have the 16W version if I remember correctly and it's very bright, makes backing onto a driveway much easier than with halogen bulbs.
