Hi All,
First topic so apology's if I get anything wrong in posting this.
One of the issue's I'm finding with my rex is the heat coming through into the cab from the exhaust just behind the driver seat around the tunnel. I was told that the center pipe was leaking so I took it off and replaced the gaskets which looks to have resolved the leaking but while replacing these I took some photos and I'm not sure if some of the exhaust shielding was missing around the silencer area, see pics.
There was also a strip of what was exhaust shielding fabric ontop of the silencer which was completely burnt, that's now gone and the heat isn't coming through as badly but does still come through. Didn't know if I was missing any shielding, also noticed that the silencer does not have much clearance above it, can just about get my finger above it, is that normal or does it seem too high ?
I have another topic which suggests its normal to get some heat from the tunnel, didn't know if the shieding is missing whether it was worth wrapping that section of the exhaust in wrap ?

Re: Heat Sheilding to Exhaust
Decat will lower temperatures but even then it's still hot, my previous RX8 didn't have AC and in summer the heat from the exhaust by my leg was unbearable, I ended up putting some soundproofing that had aluminium foil on one of the layers on the interior side of the tunnel under the carpet and it reduced temperatures markedly.

If it glows after a run then it's toast.
One clue is if it's not the original, as most aftermarket replacements can/will fail after a year or so, depending how much the car is driven.
Otherwise it's remove for a visual inspection.

Re: Heat Sheilding to Exhaust
Thanks both, will check it out. Thought it worth an ask as the car gets pretty warm inside near the tunnel like Jonny said above, not burning hot or anything but would rather replace early if its going.

The left-hand drivers seat rail gets quite hot, especially in traffic, and that is normal.

LoL I will try to cut out the chocolate inside the car.
So I'm guessing the setup on mine is normal then. I'll try to monitor it next time I run it, it is off the road but I can run it about a bit around me to get it warmed up.
