R3 Recall

Post by Nickp47 »

Hi all, I was idly checking the MOT history on my R3 which arrived today and noticed a recall outstanding, I also checked the R3 I have just sold and also shows one so just wondering if anyone has further info?

Yup - recall outstanding, which wasn't there when I checked my MOT date about a week ago...

The four R3s that I've been asked to check so far have all come up with AJ046E = "MAZDA RX-8 (2003 - 2010) - THE TAKATA PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR MAY NOT OPERATE AS INTENDED, so I think we can assume that it's going to apply to everyone.

Yep. Got one here too. Nice to know there's at least one fault waiting to kill us...

Let's see what my local dealer manages to break while fixing the airbag. Dammit. I'd done such a good job of avoiding them this far.

This recall applies to S1 cars also, called Mazda and they confirmed it is required on my 2005, apparently letters are being sent out.

Will book in with TW Whites in Orpington after new year, it's a 120-mile round trip, but they do have some affinity for rotary-engines (have completed all previous recalls, without flooding or generally bolloxing up my car).

Technically waiting to kill whoever is in your passenger seat when (if?) you crash it into something solid!  It's such a fun seat to be in too!

Might call my local dealer about dropping the airbag unit itself off... I don't know if I want them flooding the monster-ported FrankenRex...

EDIT: they are working their way through, mine is a 60 plate and it was issued on Dec 20th.

That's not just the date on the MOT site that you checked it, is it?

Hah, it says "This recall has been outstanding since December 20th"

So... Turns out I can't drop just the airbag unit off and they need to actually have the car for a whole day... Might just leave it...

..unless you have a JDM import, in which case Mazda UK won't take responsibility for any recalls. So original airbags and fuel tank seals for me......ARBs already changed thanks to seized bolts!

Why this Mazda recall site but not for use by the UK?
it would make it all a bit easier for us.

Anyone been brave and done this yet? Post up experiences please.

I want to hear about a lovely dealership where they knew exactly what they were doing and had a HUGE empty car park. Because that's the opposite of my local dealership.
