Not true. Manufacturers don't do recalls because they care about you and are worried something might happen. They do them because a fault is already killing people and they are liable. In this case the Takata airbags used in the RX8 can blow your face off with shrapnel and people have already died as a result. That's the kind of danger that triggers a recall.
Yes the number of deaths is teeny tiny relative to the number of cars affected, but note that the number of successful deployments is not recorded. Nor the number of faults that resulted specifically in life changing injuries... they only publish the deaths and 'injuries'.
Marketing speak 'continuous improvement' and 'striving to advance' is just that. It will certainly 'negatively impact your driving pleasure' if your loved one has their face removed.
