I hope they are going to sort the damage out for you.
I have to get our R3 booked in for its recall and I’m dreading it because of experiences like this.
No I'd rather buy a new dashboard and drive 5 hours to have bigpete fit it. That's how much I don't want to give them the car again.
Send them the bill for the new dashboard and Bigpetes time and see what happens.

I've yet to have the 3 outstanding recalls done to my car, only the passenger airbag was done, three years ago.

Since then, the dealer that did the airbag has "chosen not to renew" their Mazda franchise, leaving only two other dealers within 100 miles in NI, both of whom have a dire reputation.

Having just had three recalls done on the Jeep, by the only Chrysler Jeep dealer in NI, it gives me no satisfaction to find that the quality concerns aren't limited to the Mazda brand.

I did the recall because of the suggested impact on insurance and that the airbags have been killing/maiming people. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I only really have a passenger on track days but it's nice to be able to extinguish the 'passenger airbag off lamp'.

Yeah I mean Im taking it seriously. Im just not in a big rush to get it done right now. Probably a next year type deal if I put the car back on the road next year. Considering having it off the road whilst I get things the way I want to... Which I know can be a bit dangerous!

Passenger or driver air bag? Did the letter say? Have you already had the passenger one done?

No way I'm giving my car back to Mazda after the mess they made of the dashboard doing the passenger side recall.

Passenger side Haydn, I know the lads at my local Mazda dealership but I'm still not inclined to give them my car.

If I don't get it done I'll just give the letter to whoever buys the car from me when I put her up FS and he can decide what to do.

BTW, what happened to your dash?

The Mazda tech doing it scratched the hell out of the top dashboard section, probably when trying to remove the panel. It looks awful and the scratches go across two panels. Thankfully it's not that visible from the drivers side but looks awful from the passenger side. Mazda denied any wrongdoing of course. I'm not a service customer so why would they care.

Your plan is probably best. Might be wise to disable the airbag at the key switch even if you don't carry passengers. The airbags have been known to detonate spontaneously without an impact, and the shrapnel (part of the reason for the recall) can reach the whole cabin. Tho maybe don't tell your potential buyers that!

Sounds like a plan, thanks Haydn ;)

That's terrible about your dash, i'd be raging but it's nigh on impossible to prove unless you had a before and after pic with the before pic being date and time stamped.

You could try to remove/lessen the scratches with a hot air gun. have a look on you tube.

Or a good body shop would sort it for you Haydn. I can't imagine it being an overly expensive job plus you can always forward the bill to Mazda  Worth a shot :D

Thanks guys, will look up the hot air gun method. I thought about buying replacement trim panels but I'm sure they'll be astronomically expensive if they're even available.
