Sports CAT Fitting question..

I am in the process of fitting a new SS Sports Cat but there are some differences I am confused over..

My old decat was fitted with Spring bolts at the back but then new Cat is threaded at the back and comes with standard bolts + spring washers.

It all fits nicely together but was confused to why it’s different?




Also the front came supplied with a flat triangular gasket which is blowing on first test but I have a round flat type as well so wasn’t sure on people’s preference to use? And if I need any gasket sealant as well?

The flat triangular gasket is known to blow. They almost all do. The Mazda style circular crush gasket is much better.

The springs are essential. They allow the donut gasket to move (like a ball joint). Without this movement you will put stress on the exhaust (risking eventually cracking it), and the chance of leaks is much higher.

You can get fitting kits on eBay. Check them out. You will be able to find the right gaskets, bolts and springs.

Use the circular gasket on the front ,I done as you have on the rear and worked fine , just not too tight as it needs a bit of movement I think

Ok great thanks I’ll swap gaskets over now.

I have a recommended fitting kit off eBay but the actual flange on my Cat is threaded with flat ends you can’t use the bolts which as tapered presumably to fit into a tapered flange (plus they don’t event fit through the threaded holes).

Does the spring option need fitted both sides of a cat/decat? From memory mines only at the cat back join.

Ok I was being very stupid, it seems my mistake was copying how it was previously fitted.. and I was getting my back and front bolts mixed up.

Turning the bolts round with the proper spring kit made it all work correctly.. thanks all for advise think it’s finally done. (Pending gasket test).

KKS sports cat by any chance?

Confused me to start with as well, plus I had to find some new bolts and slightly shorter springs.
