So gobe ro replace the battery abd dropped one of the retaining bolts for the battery strap.
I can't get the battery box out. Bolts rusted to bits.
So
Any idea where it's going to drop out?
Do I really need a battery strap?

Re: Chuffing hell
That's 20kg of lead flapping about in your engine bay, with nothing but some thin plastic between it and mayhem. You decide!
And it's an MOT failure.
I assume it's the same as an s1, and you can get one for about £2 from a breaker?
Where will it come out? If you are lucky you'll find it on your drive, if you give the car a jolt of acceleration. If you are unlucky it will wedge itself in one of the drive belts.

Re: Chuffing hell
Might be worth giving the bolts a few doses of penetrating fluid and some gentle encouragement with a spanner. You may well shear them, but it would allow you to get the battery box out and retrieve your battery strap bolt. You can always drill out and re-tap for new bolts to hold the tray in place.
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Re: Chuffing hell
Well over an hour with different sockets and it's not budging.
Took the under team off and still can't find the thing.
I'm wondering if it's dropped in one of the cross members?
I'll get one on order and hope it works it's way out.

Re: Chuffing hell
I pity anyone behind you if it does work it's way out! Sheer the bolts off and retap as Sam suggests.

Re: Chuffing hell
Take the air box and undertray out and you may be able to spot it..more than likely it's in one of the fans,or has landed on the engine undertray

Re: Chuffing hell
Dropped my oil filler cap into the engine bay one track day tried desperately to find it and eventually gave up bit of plastic sheet and an elastic band cured it temporarily until a replacement was found. Subsequently after the undertray had been off and on numerous times over the years one day, many, many years later, it appeared on the garage floor .
Now a distant memory unfortunately.
